Actually I saw a program on the history of marijuana on the History channel. It was the Chinese who introduced weed for medicinal purposes. I believe it started moving West and eventually Napolean and his Army brought it back to France from Egypt (because it was easier to carry than alcohol, and had less side effects as well). It than made it into the port cities of US, where they "Claim" the crime and murder rate went up Due to that they had prohibition on marijuana in 1914.........damn them!

Indians actually smoke peyote which is a small cactus grown wild in the southwest.

Marijuana has been found buried with cavemen. It was probably used even before men started living in caves.

You can find a ton of historical research on cannabis at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/history.htm See "Marijuana, the First 12,000 Years" for starters.

An even more interesting story is why it was outlawed in the first place. See http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/mj_outlawed.htm

BTW, the History Channel special mentioned above was done out of my web site and I was featured on the show.
