Many people have blood drawn everyday. Needles hurt but they are not unbearable.
For children, the best way to lessen the pain is to distract. You could blow bubbles, sing a song, or for older children repeating words such as "I can do this." over and over again helps. You could also try acting it out with a doll and fake med. kit so you can tell what she is really scared of. Another thing is letting her have some control over the procedure such as letting the child decide what arm to draw from, what color band-aid, or even whose hand they want to hold.
Also, always tell them the truth. If you tell the child that this won't hurt and it does, then they won't trust you when you tell them something else won't hurt.

I have gotten blood taken many times!
The first time is a little scary but if you have a good nurse she'll talk to you and explain all she's doing.
Don't watch the needle going in, it will probably make you want to vomit...I don't mind it because I've never disliked needles.
When the needle is going in it's a little pinch, just try not to move.
Before the nurse even gets to the needle, she'll poke at your arm and try to get the vein to rise and put a tight elastic around your arm, that's just to rise the vein so it's easier to get blood.
Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it doesn't. It all depends how relaxed you are. Just remember to breathe. Take deep breaths if it hurts.
Do not take any meds or alcohol before getting blood work, and if you are still warm from a hot shower when you get it done, that can really help!
I hope this helps!

It really depends on the nurse drawing the blood, if she's good then no it won't hurt much at all. Like a little pinch. Less than a shot even because you don't have the medicine burning you. Tell her to just relax and look away and it will be over before she knows it. Once they are finished they will give her a cotton ball to hold on the site and put a bandaid on it and she will be good to go.

Yes, it will hurt. The arm will be tied off with a tourniquet, which is uncomfortable, and then stuck with a needle, also uncomfortable. The good news is it doesn't take too long and it doesn't last forever.
Why tell her she is getting a blood draw before hand and raise anxiety?
Give her a hug. Tell her it will hurt, but it will go faster if she doesn't move around. Promise her a treat for her bravery and follow up with that treat!
What a sweet sibling you are!

no. it doesn't hurt that much. i think it is in her mind. before i used to be like that. i was so scare and thought it gonna hurt me. but when i think about it, and told myself that it doesn't hurt, thus when i got the blood test, it doesn't hurt at all.
try to distract her with something and or talk to her like tell her a funny story and cheer her up. afterward, she won't feel a thing. it doesn't hurt. the reason it hurt is because she think it will hurt her. but if she doesn't think about it, then she will be fine.
don't worry too much, okay. your sister will be fine.

there is not something to be afraid of. that is in undemanding terms slightly pinch earlier each thing, and that's approximately it. attempt having you or your mom in there together with her, and be on the different part of the place the blood is being taken from. Have her inspect you, and carry her hand so as that she feels gentle (or as gentle as attainable). enable her deliver a filled toy or some thing it is reassuring to her. in step with danger tell her that there is a great hug, or ice-cream or some cool incentive in it afterwards? additionally, when I've had blood drawn, I generally carry my breath suitable while they stick the needle in.. for some staggering reason, it helps.

It will only sting for a moment when the needle is actually inserted; after that, she won't feel a thing. A person who is really good at it will do it so well, she'll barely feel the stick; they will understand completely if she wants to look elsewhere while they do the stick.

Needles hurt but just briefly. Hold her hand and tell her if she doesn't cry, you will do something special just for her. Only you can know what that something is. Tell her to be brave and even if she cries, hug her and tell her it will be all right. She will be fine. She is lucky to have you as a sister.

I hate to say it, but yes, it will hurt. Try to distract her with her favorite toy and tell her not to look and it will be over soon. The longer she waits to get it the longer it will take to get it over with. I'm sorry to hear she's so upset. Let me know how it works out!
