I have some college auditions coming up and am looking for an upbeat song from a musical. I need a monologue (which I already have) and 2 songs (one slow and one upbeat).

I'm looking for something fun but that also is not overdone. Some of the songs I considered using are:

Ckimbing Uphill from The Last Five Years.
I took this song to districts and got an excellent on it. I'm not using it to audition because I was strongly advised against using Jason Robert Brown songs as they are too complicated to play on the piano unless the pianist has had time to get familiar with the song.

If You Hadn't (But You Did) from Two On The Aisle.
The reason I'm not using this is for the simple reason that the music is out of print and it has been pretty much impossible for me to track down.

So! Any suggestions?

Yes, I do have a voice teacher and we've been looking for songs. As mentioned, the one's we've come up with that have "clicked" (by that I mean the song fits my voice and I really enjoy the song) there's always a problem (i.e. too difficult to play to can't find the sheet music).

I'm trying to stray from shows that are too popular and might be overdone like Les Miserables but thank you for the suggestion.

Another one I'm considering is The Life Of The Party from The Wild Party.

I'm going to assume you're an alto with a heck of a belting range since you're choosing songs done by Idina Menzel and Sherie Rene Scott. With that in mind, try the following:

Ballad:
"Heaven Help My Heart" from Chess
"You Can't Get a Man with a Gun" from Annie Get Your Gun
"They Say It's Wonderful" from Annie Get Your Gun
"Love" from Annie Warbucks (not the traditional Annie)
"A Change in Me" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast (broadway, not movie version, obviously)
"The Other Side of the Tracks" from Little Me
"Now That I've Seen Her" from Miss Saigon (soprano with belt, FYI)
"Lay Down Your Head" from Violet
"Willing to Ride" from Steel Pier
"Your Daddy's Son" from Ragtime

Uptempo:
"The Life of the Party" from Lippa's The Wild Party (good choice)
"The Gentleman is a Dope" from Allegro
"Nobody's Side" from Chess
"Astonishing" from Little Women
"I Don't Want to Show Off" from The Drowsy Chaperone (this might be too popular right now to be an effective audition piece)
"Roses Turn" from Gypsy
"Waiting for Life" from Once on This Island
"Purlie" from Purlie
"I Got Love" from Purlie
"If I Had a Fine White Horse" from The Secret Garden
"Suddenly Seymour" from Little Shop of Horrors
"Hey, I'm Dyin'" from Violet
"Gimme, Gimme" from Thoroughly Modern Millie

That's a pretty good assortment to start with. Break a leg.

I even have auditioned pupils for over 25 college musicals. it incredibly is my opinion which you will desire to in no way sing something that's no longer a minimum of two a protracted time old. i'm no longer that lady" has purely been accomplished by skill of the character in depraved, or an quite present day recording, meaning you're competing against a consultant. you apart from would run the threat of being between the to sing the comparable music. seek for an identical character to the single your daughter would desire to be in this instruct. look in 20 12 months old musicals. reliable success

I don't know what voice part you are, but "This Place Is Mine" from Phantom (not the Lloyd Webber version) is a great piece.

If you take voice lessons, ask your teacher. If you don't take regular voice lessons, invest in a few coaching sessions before your auditions. You can get a recommendation from a local college music department.
