Some vets will do a juvenile spay at 2 months or 2 lb. I am not a vet, but I would wait until 6 months. Some dogs will come in heat before 6 months but you would just have to keep her away from any males.

You can get a puppy fixed as early as 8 weeks old, as long as the puppy is at least 2 lbs.
I was just at the SPCA Clinic this morning and they were telling another woman this information. However, my personal vet said that my vet's office will not do it until they are at least 6 months old. But she said that was just because their insurance wouldn't cover "pediatric" spaying. However, she also said the research shows that there is no difference in the health of the dog, as long as it is fixed within the first 18 months of life. The longer you wait, and the more heat cycles she goes through, the more likely she is to develop cancer.

Ask your vet because each will have a different answer but the average age that most dogs get fixed is 6 months.

I Know that some Vets claim that it can be done while the dog is still a puppy. I recommend not doing before 6 months of age. However make sure you have it done PRIOR to her going into her first heat-as the risk of mammary tumors-ie breast cancer is greatly reduced-if not completely.

Most vets will tell you that your dog must be at least 6 months old. If you do it to soon then you take a large chance on it not taking. And/or it can cause strange behavior in your dog. ( if ya know what I mean)........lol
