You're in for a heap of trouble if you allow her to get away with what you describe. Flatcoats are very smart, rambunctious dogs who will ruin your home and your life if they are not seriously and constantly trained. Treat her as though she is a dog -- don't let her get away with unacceptable behaviors. She's probably pretty big now, so you know how strong she is. If you don't control her, she can potentially harm someone and wreck your home (because she believes it to be fun - not because she's aggressive). Flat Coats are often referred to as the "Peter Pan" of retrievers. You're probably seeing why now.
Please train before it's too late. We don't need to get involved in another rescue situation.

If that's not normal then I have a serious problem with my dog too!! LOL!! I don't believe there is anything wrong with having a dog that acts like a human. Bear is 7 and I don't think he knows he's a dog. He sleeps in the bed with us...under the covers and his head on a pillow, loves everyone especially kids. Bear is also loving, smart, and well-mannered so he knows when he's done wrong. He knows his limits. There's nothing wrong...as long as your dog doesn't have any bad habits (Bear loves the trash...*rolling my eyes*) then spoil him rotten!!! That's all they want is for you to love them ALL the time!! Also, Bear will only show aggresion when I'm home by myself and hubby is not there. He's very protective at that point, but that's about it. Now I think if someone were hurting me or my husband I think he would have a reaction to that. That is just a natural habit though...nothing we taught him. Hope this helps.

Dogs are pack animals. She's just one of the pack. Are you sure she's acting like a human, and it's not you who acts like a dog? It's all relative, after all.

I don't think there's a problem with it so long as she has good recall so as not to annoy strangers bumming smokes and stuff. OK, not bumming smokes, but maybe annoying other dogs who don't know they're dogs. If she's got good socialization with other animals, and you can call her off easily, all sounds just wonderful.

She is the equivalent to just that a kid, between 5 and 7 years old. Take her to obedience classes, long runs, walks. She need discipline and to be worn out-hence the walks.

It is Great that you take such Good care of your kid, I mean Dog. If you teach your pet right from wrong ( not to chew on things, etc.) They can still be a well mannered spoiled best friend.

I don't think so. You have to show her that she can be human sometimes but you are the 'pack leader' and that she's a dog. She can't rule the house but she can be an important member.

Okay, spoiling a dog a little bit is okay, but dont let it get out of hand, before you know it sweet 'ol spike becomes savage, greedy, and thinks he his dominant. Try laying off spoiling it and letting it have too many human things, a little bit is okay but dont let it get out ofhand
