Hmm...thought atheist never preached or tried to influence others beliefs...sorry hun, was reading your answers from others.

It seems to me that what you are looking to do is find a closer personal relationship with God. I agree with what the other Christians have told you here. I would also tell you to take time to go outside and observe the life and beauty around you. Give control of your life over to God, set Him free in your life.

Best of luck and lots of love.

You want to become more religious as a Methodist - start by joining a church if you have not yet already. Attend Bible Study and go to church every Sunday. Most important is to study the word and pray. Talk to GOD all the time/anytime. You can hold a conversation with the Lord while you are doing anything because HE knows your mind and your heart. Bible study and fellowship with others like you and those that can teach and be a mentor to you will make you more religious. Always, always trust in the Lord no matter what, have the faith, and your wisdom will come from above.

Hi Brooke,

From one Methodist to another, let me say, I wish you luck with your quest. In my teens I had the same urge to become more religious. But I soon realized that the liberal impulse within Methodism prevented me from becoming more religious. I took a very roundabout path to Christ and recently I found a lovely church in another, more traditional, denomination.

You don't necessarily have to leave the United Methodists, though. You can find more devout friends who will surely rub off on you. You can bring your family along on the journey, too. Of course the most surefire way to come closer to God is through prayer and the Bible. Pray to God that you can come closer. Pray more frequently throughout the day. Read the Bible more and watch your actions more carefully. Watch what you say and try to live a more Christlike life. Scripture has laid out a plan to become more religious. All you have to do is follow.

Colossians 3:1
[ Rules for Holy Living ] Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

1 Peter 1:13
[ Be Holy ] Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Philippians 3:10
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

1 Peter 2:5
you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

I chose these verses for you for the simple reason. Religion is not mentioned. Religion can cloud the mind with things that are not God like. The shades of gray when it comes to sin is a good example. How wet you should get when baptized is another. How do you take communion and when? Do find a good church that teaches scripture and focuses on the major issues and can work with other churches. Run from any church that says they are the only ones going to be in heaven.

Follow the scriptures above and you will be holy and a useful servant of God.

Hi Brooke, I’m also Methodist.
As others have already suggested, I think you mean that you would like to feel closer to God?

A combination of prayer and scripture: Spend a little time reading the Bible each day, even if it is just a couple of verses. When you pray, just talk to God. Tell him about everything that is concerning you, and thank him for all the blessings in your life. Ask him for guidance and understanding. He will see what is in your heart and know what you’re really seeking.

You might want to talk with your pastor and ask for some guidance with any specific issues. Also, see if your church offers any Bible study classes. Somebody already mentioned Beth Moore. Our church does some of her study courses and she really gives you a workout on studying scripture. I would also recommend her book, Believing God.

Get involved. The more you are doing to help others, the better you will feel about yourself.

All the best to you and I know that if you are earnestly seeking, you will continue to grow closer to God.

More religious! Or A better christian faith? Religion is not about christian faith its a Doctorine. So, I am guess you mean better or closer to God. Your Faith? My advise is dont get so caught up in each Doctorine a certain church group has or does. Methadist, Catholic, Penticostal, and Baptised all have diffrent practices. If your wanting to have more faith then you need to read your BiBle more and actually continue to always prey for a closeness. If you still feel its not enough then FAST for an answer.

Ooh nono, don't go for being more religious! That just leads you away from God! Chat with him, meet and pray with other believers, ask him to show you what you can do to know him more and to open up opportunities for you to have a better relationship with him. If you truly want to know you'll hear him. Faith without works is dead, but eaqually works without faith is dead. It's not about what you do, it's about who you KNOW. There is nothing more beautiful than falling in love with the creator of everything:)

Have you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ? Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior? If not, pray this simple prayer

Father, I believe you sent your Son Jesus Christ to take away the sins of the world and He died on the Cross for me. His death, burial and resurrection I believe. Forgive me of my sins as I forgive those who sin against me. Come into my heart and make me new. In Jesus' name I pray. Thank you for saving my soul and writing my name in the Book of Life. Amen

You will never get a pastor to teach you God's word. You must get into the Bible and read it daily. You get 52 sermons a year. One every Sunday. I don't care how good a preacher, that is not enough time to teach the Bible. As you read the Bible consider every word literal until you discover a parable or an allegory to explain. Don't come away from the Bible thinking that you cannot understand it. Pray before opening your Bible and let the Holy Spirit teach you how to understand it.

Yourself.

Then seek advice. Take ALL advice with a grain of salt. Decide for yourself what is best for you.

Some are going to tell you there is no God. Others will tell you there is, but only THEIR way is THE way.

Truth is, nobody actually knows. We won't know who is right until the very end. Even then we may not know.

Please be sure that if you choose religion, that you get what you are looking for from it. Don't get forced into a way of life that others control on your behalf.

If you want to become more religious, pay more attention to your church's practices and rules. Ask your pastor or a mature member of your church.

If you want to become closer to God--which isn't necessarily the same as becoming more religious--pay closer attention to God. Spend more time alone with him. Be in your bedroom or another room, and talk to him as if he's there listening to you, because he is! Then be silent and wait for a response; it will probably come within you rather than in your hearing ear. Also, read the scripture more, and think about what you've read. If you haven't already, ask Jesus Christ to come into your life personally. And yes, talk to your pastor or a mature member of your church. See whether or not your church aids you in getting closer to God. If not, seek another church, with God's guidance.

Good luck and God bless you!
