My 3 year old son has a fever of 100.7 and is laying around for 3 hours. I gave him tylenol but hasn't helped him it seems. What should I do for him?
Also, he hasn't gone to the bathroom (number 2) for almost 3 days now...is this normal? Is this related? Any suggestions please....Thanks in Advance

Yes, he has a runny nose. Is 100.7 considered high?

Give him ibubrofin. Tylenol will NOT work for my kids so I alternate the ibuprofin and the tylenol. If that doesn't help maybe call the doctor.
I read above and 100.7 is a low grade fever NOT dangerous for a 3 year old.

I would suggest giving him some prunes or prune juice for the bathroom problem. Most docs won't be worried so long as he's still hydrated and peeing frequently (once every 8 hours.) If he shows signs of dehydration and hasn't peed in the last 8 hours definitely call the doctor. The fever is not very high for a child and so long as he hasn't had a fever for a few days than they'll tell you to just keep giving him the Tylenol, or Motrin works better. Also bundle him up and help him sweat it out. It really works.
Hope this helps!

100.7 is not a high fever really per Dr when it becomes 103. is when you should take him in. Try to make him have a BM and maybe that will help (apple juice helps) but make sure that you give lots of fluids. Give him Motrin instead of Tylenol because Tylenol only works for 4 hours and Motrin 8 so less meds for you baby.

it's so hard to know what is bothering a young child other than observing symptoms. His fever isn't too high but do keep a watch on it. Is the tylenol not lowering it? A cool cloth on his head, neck, thighs can help lower it. Remove extra clothing, make him comfy in t shirt and underwear, snuggle him and hold the cloth on him and see how he does. Offer fluids to help keep him hydrated. Juice, water or gatorade, etc. If his fever goes up above 102, call the doctor in the morning and have him checked.
The fluids should help too if he's constipated. Feel his tummy down low if it is hard or soft. At that young an age, I'd ask advice from his doctor on what to give him if you think he needs it.

100.7 is not really high for a 3 yr old. Tylenol or Motrin should be OK for him to keep him comfortable. If he hasn't had a BM for a while, give him some fruit (like prunes or peaches)... sometimes that will help. Defintiely call the Dr. in the morning - or tonight if they have an on call staff.

Sorry to hear your son isn't well. It would be helpful to know how the temp was taken. If it was taken under his arm you should add a couple of degrees which would bring it up high enough to definitely warrant a call to the doctor. If this is a rectal temp, ear temp, or under the tongue temp you shouldn't worry about it too much. However, it is bothersome that with such a low grade temp he's not moving around much which would lead me to believe there's an underlying cause for that. Have you asked him if he hurts anywhere? I know my boys aren't reliable for things like that, but if you poke around you should be able to tell if it really hurts (flinching, shying away...) as opposed to his saying it hurts (when it probably doesn't). Has he been whiny or had other behavior that is unlike himself? Trust your instincts, if you're thinking something is wrong it is better to find out it isn't then it would be to do nothing and find out it was. Physicians are used to calls from worried parents so don't worry about disturbing them. Wish you and he the best! Good Luck.

If he is responding to you and his temp doesn't get higher, I'd say you are OK to wait until tomorrow to take him to the doc. Make sure he is taking in fluids (pedialyte would be great or even gatorade). If the fever goes up or if he stops responding, go immediately to the ER. The constipation could be due to dehydration from running a low grade fever for a couple of days.

Most Doctors really won't do anything for a fever under 103. If your child is feeling poor than he will lay around most children sleep as this is how their bodies heal. If your child isn't drinking enough that may be why he is constipated, apple juice should do the trick. It is not normal for a child to go that long but I have a friend whose child does this. You really need to take your child to the doctor and let it be their call.

Please keep him hydrated. I just went through a horrible experience with my 5 yr old daughter!!! Check out my previous question. Call your Dr. and make sure you keep an eye on him.
If you lightly pinch his cheek, is it pink and rosy? if not, he may be dehydrated. that can cause seizures, (horrifying to see) and has he been eating anything?
his temp: make sure he has just one layer of clothes on,,if he has a fever..if you cover him up too much that is not good, if you try to cool him down, the body just thinks it is cold and tries to warm up more which can bring his body temp up.
Is he responsive? If he is not responding to you at all, call 911 immediately!!!
best of luck to you and your little guy. if you can add additional details so we can maybe help you further.
