Somebody told me that once. I was really offended by that. Also considering that in the list of spiritual gifts tongues is always at the bottom of the list.

There's always people somewhere who just aren't satisfied with anyone else and always think they're right. I've never met any Christians that thought that way, it's news to me I guess. Maybe tongues is at the bottom of the list because it's the hardest to confirm. I'm not sure because it's not the gift I have so I don't know a whole lot about it.

Haha! If someone could reliably "speak in tongues", as a biblical reversal of the Babel curse, they would be the most powerful person on earth.

Of course, that's all simply rediculous.

If anyone can really speak and understand such things, ask them to translate this for me:

That is not true. Speaking in tongues is a gift. And not being able to do so doesn't make one less Christian than the one who does. We are made Christians because of our faith, because of the Blood. Do not let anybody move your focus away from the basis of your faith. (I do speak in tongues, though. Practice prayerfully and you will eventually will. Just let the Spirit do it for you.)

Because their church does it and they want to feel special and exclusive.

It's that whole, "my church is the best church in the world," bit. A lot of people make that claim...and they can't all be right. The Bible doesn't say you have to have every last gift in the book...come on. They're either pulling your leg or a little crazy...either way, I wouldn't take what they say too seriously.

At least not about speaking in tongues, anyway.

There is no where in scripture for this doctrine, they have just twisted other scriptures to make this "doctrine" fit what they believe ! The fathers of christianity (Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, Wesley etc..) never preached this ! its all about belief & faith in Christ's sacrifce, which is the whole theme of the New Testament !

Give them the book "Snow Crash" and let them read it, soon they shall realize (falsely of course, it is a novel after all, but such people are usually fairly gullible) that the practice is an evil plot for mind control. Snow Crash=the nerdy DaVincci Code for tongues.

They are misinformed and do not understand scripture. all you have to do is read Acts chapter 2 and it clearly says that the tongues the aposltes were speaking were languages of man and each person from another regien herd them speak in THIER OWN LANGUAGE. It is not jibberrish like they practice.

The people who say that seem to be ignoring parts of scripture, especially

The irony is how can you call yourself a Christian and say something like that? Any "Christian" who says that needs to read their Bible, in one of the "non-tongue" languages (English, Italian,German, etc.
