Can anyone give me some input on whats the maximum blade length in New York for a folding knife to be carried on personage; if 4" or over, is it legal as long it is not concealed (in pouch on bekt), who can answer this.

Generally the laws go back to what was called the "Sullivan" law. 4" seems to be the magic length. Mostly the law is applied when a knife is used in the commission of a crime. It is the difference between a dangerous instrument and a deadly weapon. Also, the type of knife is considered. Switchblades and gravity knives are Deadly weapons. A student entering a school with any kind of knife is subject to arrest...Likewise, trying to board an airplane with a knife of any kind would also result in arrest.

My friend, the law in New York City with regards to carry a knife is vague, but the link below will answer all your question about it. Overall, I would recommend carrying one to protect yourself, because the crime rate in New York City is a lot lower now than it use to be some 20 or 30 years ago. Good luck Native New Yorker
