Who do you think shouuld be the head of the household. Is it the man or woman? and why?
Family headship is not a shared responsibilty. It's the role of the man.
Actually according to God's word. The man should be the head of family. His decision is the final. His wife cannot tell him what to do. There has to be one head of the family. Two captains cannot stir the same ship. Family headship is not a shared responsibility between married mates. One has got to be the head. It doesn't mean that the bible demeans women. You know it's far from that. This way is just God's arrangement. Even if the husband is disabled or not making money as his wife. He is still the head of the woman and Christ is the head of the man. Wives are told to be submissive to their husband but not slaves.

it doesn't mean women can't give suggestions. Husbands listen to their wives viewpoints. But the man makes the final decision.

Ephesians 5:22-29
Wives and Husbands
22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—

This is for Kersten O: Read Ephesians 5 vs. 23. It spells it out in plain English: For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is head of the church.
I was surprised by the answers on here. I thought for sure I would open this up and find all kinds of people bashing this belief. How nice to know that others agree and uphold this teaching.

You wouldn't be talking like this if you were a woman, would you? God's word has been misunderstood by some men. You should treat people the way you want to be treated by them, even if they 're women and "God says otherwise". These are just excuses for several men's behaviour.
And after all, everyone has the right to be free -even women-; how would you feel free if you had to always listen to or even obey to someone in your own house? Families are not supposed to be working this way. Because sometimes there is no head, just people who take advantage of the circumstances.

I think it depends on the situation, why should a man be allowed to be head of the household when he does not work or provide for his family.. More women work then men, and If the woman is going to provide the income then she should be head of the household. If the man is responsible than by all means he should be head of the household. Also if both are working then they both should be treated as equals. Why is it one way or another. All decisions should be made together.

I feel that a family is a working unit of people. Ultimate decisions should, whenever possible, be made as a family as a whole. When that is not possible, perhaps in the case of young children, then those decisions should always be made by at least two people. Regardless of who sets the decision in action, they should have advise and input from someone equally involved and concerned with the wel being of the family unit. Male or female leadership is irrelevant. The important thing is that the family is functional, happy and healthy.

The father should be the head of the family and the spiritual leader of the home. God has designed men for that position. But I guess you answered your own question already!

My husband and I make all decisions together. There is no HOH. I don't believe the man is the "ruler" as in the bible. Times have changed to much.

hee hee hee. you're funny. You say that this isn't demeaning to women, but you wouldn't want to be in their shoes, always having to submit to whatever the man says... how is that not hypocritical?
Remember, whatever else the Bible might say, the most important rule is to treat others as you would be treated yourself. So if you don't wish to be dominated and ordered about, then don't seek to dominate or order others. Try to conceive of a world where everyone can be equal partners, working together to be the best people they can be and serving God in the best way they can.
