He's probably concerned that she might have Autism. Do some research on the symptoms and see if any of them fit your daughter. She might not have made eye contact with him if she wasn't feeling like herself that day due to her cold. But be thankful that you have a Dr. that notices things like that and takes action, many Dr.'s don't. Good Luck.

It sounds like the doctor is being overly-cautious, to cover his butt. I have had a lot of tests done on my baby (in utero and after) because the doctor had some itty bitty inkling that something may be wrong. Nothing ever was. I think many kids at that age are shy, and are scared of the doctor.

He is probably thinking of some autism-related disorder. Read up about it, whatever you can. If you notice your baby making eye-contact with you, then she's probably just shy. Make note of any symptoms of autism-spectrum-disorder that she may exhibit, and mention them to the doc at her well-baby.

It sounds trite, but try not to worry. It was really sh*tty of your doctor not to tell you whats up and worry you.

I hate to say this, but the first thing that comes to my mind upon hearing a symptom of not making eye contact is autism or some related disorder. I hope that's not the case for you, and I'm sure your pediatrician is on it. Good luck & god bless.

My two year old doesn't make eye contact with people she doesn't know/or is afraid of.
Please do not get worried but do speak to a professional.
It's not a good idea to ask people who aren't experts because they may just add to your worries and you don't even know if what they're saying is true.

Not making eye contact is a sign of autism and that maybe why he wants to run tests......but my question is how do you not know if shes making eyecontact with you....

It may be a sign of Autism. You might think she is looking at you because you may always be placing yourself in her veiw.....or that she may be looking at your nose instead of eyes (which some tend to do). Autism may be minor or severe. I would read up on it if I were you, just in case.

I am guessing that he suspects she is either vision or hearing impaired. She perhaps is not relating the noise of someone talking to her to where she should look. Any family history in this area?

Sneak up behind her and make a loud noise and see if it startles her. Also show her bright pictures and watch her reaction closely.

All the best to you and your family.
