A woman can be a housewife even if she has no children. Mainly that just mean that she does not work outside the home. Her job is taking care of the home, essentially.

A woman can only be a SAHM if she has children. Most SAHM's tend to do a lot of the "housewife" type chores but savvy mom's know how to get their spouses involved too.

Basically a stay-at-home-mom is the modern way of saying housewife. The conotations today differ this way: They started using the new term because many people get the impression that housewives eat bon-bons and lay on the couch all day. Stay at home moms work their butts off.

They both do the same work that's 24/7, but for some reason the word housewife became a bad thing.

House wife is someone who stays at home that doesn't have children

Stay at home mom is someone that does have kids.

I've done both and let me tell you being a house wife was A LOT easier than a stay at home mom. LOL. My house used to actually stay CLEAN. Sadly, that is not the case anymore with a 13 month old :(

A house wife doesnt have any duties related to child care. A stay at home mom has all the usual wifely duties but she also is responsible for the care of the children.

I know I hate being called a house wife. To me a house wife is an "old school" term. They used that word back in the day where woman were slaves to their husbands.

I am a stay at home mom. I am only a "slave" to my children. LOL (Just kidding but sometimes I sure do feel that way)

a house wife is a woman who stays at home and she has older children or her children have moved out or she never had none and is just a wife

a stay at home mom has younger children to take care of in her home and that is why she has to or chooses to stay home:)
