Do you like to be told when you are doing something wrong? How about if someone came up to you and told you that you were a sinner?
That's why they are upset. No one likes to be told the "truth" because it means they are not doing what they should be doing and don't like it when others make them feel guilty or face the truth.

I suppose that depends on whether you're point out the truth, or an opinion that you insist is the truth. If it's a truth (for instance, saying that it's grammatically incorrect to end a sentence with two question marks), then they get upset because they don't like being shown up. If it's an opinion or a belief (for instance, that there is or isn't a God), then the anger usually stems from two sides expressing separate opinions that they believe to be true - although neither is necessarily true. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Which truth are you speaking of ? Religious ? Any truth ? I think it upsets people because you are taking on the role of someone who knows the answer to something. That, in and of itself, could be seen as a rather arrogant attitude .. that "you" know the truth about anything. Besides, many times, there is more than one truth out there. It is only YOUR opinion that YOU know the truth. It doesn't mean that you actually know the truth. Good Luck ! :)

Your question doesn't state what this "truth" is that you are pointing out. I'm assuming there is a certain specific issue you are talking about. Because no one knows the truth in everything.
Truth can be relative. What is true to you on a philosophical and spiritual level may not be a truth to others. Those ideas are developed over time by experience and knowledge.

Are they upset by the truth, or by the way in which you choose to share it with them? There's such a thing as an unsolicited opinion, after all. Few people appreciate someone coming up to them and telling them that their views, opinions, understandings, or values are wrong, even if the arguments have merit. It's not necessarily the truth that upsets people, but the feeling of being disrespected.

Because they can't handle the truth. The truth hurts too much because people have pampered egos. They like to think they *know* the truth and that they are perfect just like their mommy and daddy told them. So words like, "you don't really know" scares the crap out of them because not knowing is equated with weakness despite that humility is supposedly a strength. So people freak out because they feel they HAVE to know, just like in those crappy multiple choice tests they give in school where there is only one right answer and that someone MUST know the answer... But it's complete BS. They DON'T know, but feel a desperate NEED to be right. So they get defensive and upset if you point out that they are really just guessing and that any bigoted behavior they may have expressed is based on a cheap guess - which is to say they are a phoney. I suppose people don't like the pointing out that they are phoney and bigoted... Whatever. Like they cared about my feelings.

I'm likely wasting my time, but here goes. Lets see how you handle the "truth". It's idiots like you, I believe, that create so much hate. You call your opinion the truth. Be person enough to say. I believe or I think or I feel, before you voice your statement. What you say is not the truth. We dont know the truth. People often say, "I'm just telling it like it is". In fact they are telling like they see it. Get the idea of what I'm trying to share. Lighten up and learn to listen and respect other ideas. Then that way there is a chance for growth rather than hate. Remember, to HATE is
is like you taking poison and waiting for your enemy to die. good luck

People are resistant to change in any form. How is it you've lived here at least long enough to read and write and you were unaware of this. You should already know this from trying to make changes in your own life. Also the truth should not be used to abuse but to build up with love. So they may be madder at your motive than content of truth.

Cuz honestly, they don't want to hear the truth. They would rather you lie to them than hear what is really going on. But, on the other hand, if you don't tell them the truth, and they find out for themselves, then they get mad at you too, so it's a no win situation either way.

If everyone told the truth no-one would get on! So people are surprised you dare speak to them in a way they don't like to hear. Not sure if that really got to the point, but can't really explain in any other way.
