Answer honestly. I am 12 years old, I weigh 85 pounds, am 5 foot 2 but I feel like losing weight. I know it's wrong and I haven't completely stopped eating but my appetite is getting smaller and smaller. I guess I'm doing it because there is a person I know weigh like 60 pounds (even though that person is tiny) and i'm jelous.

you have a distorted view of body size. your body will keep growing until you are about 25. You can not expect to stay the same size you are when you are 12. Your friend probably wishes she were bigger. get involved in some sports and build up your muscles, an athletic body is a healthy body.

Yes...talk to someone before this gets out of hand. So many girls want to achieve the "perfect body" but there is no such thing. As lame as this sounds, everyone's body is perfect, it's perfect for them at least. I think people are destined to be who and what they are including what they look like. DO NOT get so wrapped in loosing weight that your life revolves around how miserable you are in your own skin. Talk to your mom or another female family member, or if you have to the school nurse. Eating disorders are a disease, and you can get help now before you seriously put your life into jeapordy. I have had a lot of friends with eating disorders and it's something that haunts you for the rest of your life. Even I had body image issues. I would look in the mirror and see only the bad things and the things I didn't like about my body. People told me how pretty I was but I focused on things that were so unimportat and things no one else saw but me. I still have the occasional wish to loose a few pounds, but I'm older than you and about five seven and 135. Don't loose weight because you're jealous, and if you don't like the way you look, you need to talk to someone. Don't stop eating.

I hope I helped you...you're fine the way you are I'm sure.

There are all types of body sizes. Just because someone is 60# doesn't mean that you have to be the same weight. She may be ill...may have an eating problem....that is something you do not want to have. Being 12 and weighing 85# and being 5'2" seems a little underweight to me...but I was never 5'2". Please seek some counsel on this...don't become another statistic of the growing number of young girls who become bulimic or anorexic...it is a deadly disease. This is something you could die of...it is very hard to stop once you have started down that path. Begin coming back by adding a small amount of food to your plate every day.
But by all means, have your Mom take you in for some counseling....it is soooo important...I can't emphasize it enough. Please take care of yourself...so many people love you!...just the way you are!

are you doing it because you're jealous or is your appetite getting smaller on its own? if you are doing it because you are jealous, then yes, that's a problem. if you start starving yourself, you are at serious risk for an eating disorder. at your age it is crucial that you eat well (ie healthy foods and stuff) because it's what your body needs for you to grow. if you keep those nutrients from it long enough, your bones would get weaker (and would be more likely to get osteoporosis when you're older), you would not have as much energy (because food is the body's fuel), and because of lack of certain vitamins that help the immune system you may get sick more often. those are only some of the consequences.

plus, you may be taller, older, or have more muscle mass than the person who is 60 pounds. those things and even genetics might have an influence as to why you weigh more than them.

i think you should talk to a parent, teacher, or adult that you trust about it. and don't judge yourself by what you see works for others. find what works for you. :)

czy,
You are only 12 years old. You should not be jealous of someone else who is very tiny. And please don't starve yourself. This can lead to all sorts of medical problems. If you eat healthy and smart, and get regular exercise you will maintain a weight which I'm sure you will be happy with. Ask around your friends. I'm sure they will rell you that you don't need to lose too much weight, and really, there are other much more fun things you should be concentrating on , like, how you're doing at school, what you will be doing in your next holidays, what sport you are going to play in 2007.........Be healthy and happy, not skinny and unhappy. I hope this helps!

Give over your 12 you shuldn't be dieting unless you are very over weight at your age, and i would say you aren't. Be very very careful you don't wana end up getting ill just cause you were jelous of someone, we are all different shapes and sizes and you will have to put up with looking at people that are small and bigger then you for your whole life, so your best be is to be happy with yourself and don't worry about anyone elses weight.

If you still want to lose weight then do it safely but and don't endanger your health.

im sure you dont even need to lose any weight, and at 12 i was like 95, and i wasnt over weight.
im sure you look fine, and the person you know that weighs 60 may not be a healthy weight, plus things depend on your height too!
if she is shorter than you it may be better for her to be 60 than you. 85 is still verrry light and you have nothing to fear.

and eating disorders are very hard to get out of and they are VERRRY dangerous, so dont temp yourself by puttign yourself in that situation.

whoa! im 5 2 and i weigh 117. i would die to b 85 but it would also b unhealty. u should at least b 100 with that height. im thinkin that u do have a problem. u should probably tlk to ur doctor about it. u may just have a health problem. as for dietin? dont do it. and if u insist on doin it dont do it by starvin urself. do it by exercisin regulary. dont b insane. u can kill urself with that starvin urself. wish u the best of luck with that. go c ur doctor though. that mite help big time.

So you want to look like a twig, be stared at because your so skinny, be made fun of in middle school and highschool, just so you can skinny like a run way model, who isnt attractive at all? Just dont eat fast food and youll be fine. I understand why you would be jealous, im like that sometimes too, but it really isnt healthy and the only reason your thinking that way is because society has pushed into our minds that skinny is better. Um, no.
