As the title implies, is being gay really a choice?

Now I know that some cases really ARE just for lust or ARE a choice, but what about the rest? Who SAYS a homosexual can't love like heteros can?

Here's my reasoning, feel free to pick away and expose flaws.

There are proven cases of homosexuality in animals, who have NO free will according to the bible. (Somewhere in Genesis, I'll find the link in a moment).

Now why is it so hard to think that it ISN'T a choice for some people?

Whynotaskdon: Who would want to live a life of lies? If you have to "correct an imbalance in the brain" to negate a CHOICE... Wow. That's like trying to cure someone for having brown eyes.

Crimthann69: About the homosexual love thing, it was just something I heard brought up in another post about a week ago. And you're correct as far as animals being more bi-sexual than homosexual, but the point remains valid. Almost all gays I know are still somewhat attracted to the opposite sex. I guess it's just a preference.

So, Sister Eve. If sex is a learned act, then someone OBVIOUSLY must be teaching someone incorrectly.

And I haven't seen any gays turn to pillars of salt and ash lately. Have you? Why not try to think for yourself instead of just QUOTING what you're taught?

According to a couple of articles, homosexuality may actually be determined by genes which can be inherited. If this is true, then it would be correct to assume that homosexuality in a way is God-given. Ironic isn't it?

By the way, I am not here to advertise and impose my own concoction of the "truth" to anyone (I think the correct term would be "truthiness" for all you Steven Colbert lovers ;) ). I am just trying to present a new side of the pro-homosexuality arguement using substantive sources. I am not trying to be accusatory nor radical. I'm just TRYING to be realistic.

First, I do not believe there is one Christian out here that does not believe that a homosexual cannot "love" like a heterosexual (by the way I found it funny you chose to write the full word for one and not the other if homo is bad so is hetero). But, what we say is that it is a choice and that it is wrong according to scripture and yes natural law.

You say there are proven cases of homosexuality in nature. Prove it and site your source. I know of a primate group that is closer to bisexuality and willing to be pleased no matter the giver's sex.

But, all animals procreate to survive. They cannot afford homosexual lifestyles or they will not get to see a future for their kind. This is also true of us by the way.

Now, your last statement about choice. I have heard many homosexuals defend their choice and say they are not defective as that is what it would be akin to. The only ones that say they had no choice are either confused or very weak and wish to pass the buck.

I do not believe God would allow for a "defect" then punish the person with said "defect."

All sex is a learned act! We learn everything from listening, watching, experiencing, and repeating! Sex was designed by God for procreation of humans on Earth! There is no actual need for homosexuality! It is only a choice by each individual! What happened to Sodom and Gammorah? And if any looked back to see, they turned into pillars of salt! Whoa to those who sin, homosexuality is unnatural, immoral, and not condoned by God's teachings! Marriage was blessed between one woman and one man! God created woman for man, man needed help, a help mate, not a slave, an equal! The propagation of homosexuality in this country is corruption, as well as pornography, and other filthy unnatural sex acts! Corruption has no age limit, the tempting, wrong teaching, forcing, lack of laws, or authority to help innocent people! Any sex act might bring satisfaction, and anyone can fall in love with another, but there were and are laws for everyone, and there should be still! To love someone, does not give you the right to have sex with them! For God's sake, use your brain, you've been convicted of every sinful, evil thought, word, and deed! Homosexuality out of the closet or anywhere is sin, filth, and sickening! The wages of sin is death! You're killing yourself, it's suicide to commit homosexual acts. If you don't feel like the sex, which you were created, maybe hormones could help! Most of the problem is in the brain, and what you think, instead of the God's honest truth! God forbid promoting homosexuality on this Earth! God bless everyone! Correction is a blessing! Amen!!!!!

Yes there is biology to support not only same sex preference -many lizard females reproduce by themselves- but also multi sex unions. There are small organisms that exchange cell information between more than 15 different 'sexes.' So, yes it does happen in nature and it can be supposed that this tendency could be found in humans. If everyone would truly be honest about it, I think most people are bi-sexual -you form intimate relationships with both sexes. No, these may not be 'sexual' -actually including intercourse-, but they certainly are based on attraction and enjoyment.

I think the biggest advance for gays will be when most people get over their learned disgust and become honest about being social. Most of us are social, attracted to relationships of both sexes and if not conditioned by previous programing would be open to various relationships that are currently making psychologists lots of money.

I believe everybody to be bisexual, some are just more attracted to certain qualities that are sometimes more evident in specific genders then in other genders, after all, there is more than just physical attraction, there is also mental attraction. I am not attracted to physical attractions, but to personality and softness and kindness. So I think the choice is not in being gay or not gay, but in what you are attracted to and which gender tends to have more of what you are attracted to. So I believe it is as much a choice, as it is your choice to choose who you want to love. However, I believe everyone does have a natural inclination towards specific things that they like about someone. For instance, if I asked you to explain the perfect someone, you would probably have a list of things that you liked in general.

I think there are probably a fairly large number in the population who could go either way, depending on the circumstances of their adolescent years. Then some absolute heterosexual and homosexual. A bell curve with most in between to some extent or other.

I think one reason some become homophobic is that while they are comfortable in heterosexual relationships from time to time they have thoughts or dreams about somebody of the same sex and this is uncomfortable for them.

It is scientific fact that, in essentially all cases, homosexuality is not a choice.

Consider it this way: Assuming you are heterosexual, next time you see someone of the same gender as you, look at them and try to see them as just as sexually attractive as an equivelant person of the opposite gender. Can you do it? Didn't think so. It's exactly the same for homosexual people, just the other way around.

Gay people try to be straight all the time. They have to hide their sexuality, and some even get married. But THEY ARE STILL ATTRACTED TO THE SAME GENDER.

If one tries so hard to be something they're not, it doesn't change them in the real world. No matter how much "Romans" or any religion says it can.

I don't think it's any more a choice than being straight is. I certainly can't bring myself to "choose" to be gay. I simply am not attracted to men. Likewise gay men are not attracted to women.

Now in the circumstance that one is Bi, and chooses to be gay altogether, i could see that argument. However, something made that person attracted to men in the first place... they certainly didn't choose to be.

i do believe that, nowadays it IS a choice for some - t hose are the people that are not "really gay". one of my best friends IS gay and has always felt that way. we've talked in depth and one thing he said to me - do you really think i'd CHOOSE to be different, not know the love of having my own children etc. nowadays kids do choose to be "gay" or as they say - bi-sexual. you are or you are not. i think there are those that only want attention and make it bad on those that just want to live a "normal" life.
