replace distributor and coil what else could it be

well it could be a number of things but the first thing to check is the distributor cap and key (metal peace in distributor cap). also new plug wires and plugs. If you still do not have fire you may need to get a mechanic. It could be grounding out somewhere our a burn out in the wire harness and those are hard to find. Good luck

being an 89 i assume it is a 2.2 or 2.5 ,which also have a "pickup plate " at the distibuter check if it is plugged in or bad
