This is a hard one...I have learned to stick with names that are unisex unless you are 100% sure of the gender. I named my cat Squiggy (after the character from Laverne and Shirley) because I thought it was a male. However, when I took it to the vet for its first check up four days later, I was told that I had a female. I debated changing the name from Squiggy Douze to something else, but I couldn't come up with anything I liked better. Squiggy stuck and I love the name. However, there are days when I think I should have named her "Stewie" after the character on "Family Guy"....she's little, very smart, and I am convinced she is hellbent on world domination. Whatever you choose, good luck with the new member of your family.

No one can give you a good name for your cat. A cat's name should come from you - his or her owner. I always try to match up the name with the personality. As an example:

Cupid - he's an orange tabby male that is a big-time cuddler and love-muffin. He curls up in your arms like a baby and goes to sleep, and gives lots of "Cupie-kisses" with his nose, tongue and my stroking his face against my chin or nose.

Miracle - she's a calico that was orphaned (by accident) from her mother at the age of 7 days and found two days later during a rainstorm. Her brother (Banshee) was crying and screaming for help under our deck and after about an hour we pulled Miracle out. Her mouth has mud in it and she was about 80% soaked in water - eyes still closed and barely able to move. It was truly a miracle from God that she survived - and her brother was the reason for it with his ear-piercing cries (hence the name Banshee). BTW - Banshee was found 15 minutes after Miracle and had been moving around under the deck the whole time trying to almost draw us to her position since she could not move. He saved her life because another 30 minutes of mud in her mouth and being soaked to the skin and she may not have recovered.

Vixen - she's a buff -n- white tabby that acts very much like an angel, sweetest personality and disposition of any cat you'd ever want to meet. And like a vixen, she sucks you in to being all nice to her. Because under that sweetness is a real fighter and a cat that can turn nasty on a dime if you get on her nerves. She's 1/4 Siamese - hence the hidden temper.

Each one of my kids has a unique name based on their personality or, in Miracle's case, the way she came to us. Look at the cat's personality - or mannerisms - or even the way you found her. Sometimes it takes a while. Cupid's name came about 6 hours after having him home, whereas Vixen's name was an hour after adopting her - and Miracle's was immediately after she was wrapped in my arms getting warm next to a heating pad and responding to my massaging warmth into her and beginning to mew softly.

You'll pick the right one - it will just come to you and no one will change your mind about it.

Maybe... I don't know, but it'll come to you... maybe? My cats were named by other people and we adopted them. One of my cats is pumpkin and she is chubby. My other cat was named Satine from the character from Moulin Rouge. This cat almost died but survived. Maybe watch a movie and there will be a character name you like. Look through a baby name book and pick out a name that describes her personality or looks. Something original.

Cats rule. ^_^

I just got a cat and I named her "Neko" which could be a name for either a boy or girl cat. Its the japanese word for "Cat"

Look up some words for "cat" in different languages, or since he's black, look up the color black in different languages. You might find something pretty cool!!
