I purchased laminate countertop with a granite pattern. The pattern is really neat. Want to add a gloss product to give it that real granite finished look. Any suggestions? What about poly? Is there a poly that does not flake? Help . . .

There are a few products you can try that will put a temporary shine on your counters. Gel Gloss has a product called Counter Gloss, and Countertop Magic is a good one. You just spray and wipe. I know that's not really what you were looking for. But from the previous answers you've received it doesn't sound like you can put anything onto the counter that will be permanent.

A high gloss finish on a laminate countertop is not going to be a good idea. The glossier a finish is the more scratches and wear and tear it is going to show, with laminate you are not dealing with a repairable material such as solid surface. There are some laminates available that have a glossy finish but they are not warranted for countertop use therefore they would not have been recommended to you. I would highly advise that you do not try to put something on top of your countertop to get a glossy finish, it could ruin the top all together!

Not a good idea, the laminate mfg. probably made matte, satin, gloss, semi-gloss and high-gloss, the high gloss was OK for back splash, or wall covering but WILL NOT HOLD UP as a counter material, Real Granite you were fond of won't stay high gloss for very long.

After market coatings not only will not last but will probably void any warranty you already have on the material.
