my upstairs neighbours play loud thumping music past 12 am at night and at intervals throughout the day. what should i do? i get the feeling that if theyre told once, theyll just keep doing it again and again. i dont wanna get face to face with them, as i am a little worried about the retribution they might seek. also, i wanna know what the average thickness is of walls and ceilings are in apartment buildings. just an average.

all you have to do is call the cops and they will notify them that there has been a noise complaint. After a certain time at night the police will do something about it. If it happens numerous times (the cops making a trip to their apartment), they will correct the problem.

My advise is call the cops.

I'm having a similar problems with a neighbor. My husband went over one Sunday morning at 4:30am because my neighbor was singing Karaoke at full volume in his garage with the garage door opened. Needless to say, it got violent and I was forced to call the cops. My neighbor almost got arrested because he dropped his pants and exposed himself (he said "kiss these"). Needless to say, now we have an enemy next door.

Anyhow, my lesson learned is to stay anonymous and call the cops - leave it to the professionals. If they keep doing it, then keep calling the cops. After they come out 2-3 times, your neighbor will be issued a warrant and will have to go to court.

Go up there and ask them to turn it down. But when you go be sure you have a baseball bat in one hand. Don't put up with it. Ask them nicely but take the bat. Speak softly and carry a big stick. They will get the message.

Call the cops & let them handle it. If it gets too frequent, they'll definitely have to do something about it.
This way, you don't have to face your neighbours and they won't know you called the cops.
