I don't know...

I personally have walked down that road, and, to tell you the truth, I am no more in trouble, enlightened, or anything else than I was when I was submitting to the "convictions". I do know that if the convictions are yours, and not those notions that are placed around you as a result of your attempting to comply with what others think, you will be less happy in the long run because you are going against what it is you desire. If those convictions are those imposed by any religious force or dogma, not originating within yourself, then they are not truly yours. They are "the rules of the game" so to speak, and are therefore not convictions of your own to go against. They belong to someone else. As to the "dark side of your nature"... well, even Walt Disney believed we all have a little hero and a little villain in each of us. I wouldn't sweat it so badly.

Hope this helps.

Think of it as quitting smoking, or drugs , awkward at first, then you are clean and free. It does not follow that a loss of faith leads to a "dark side", stop making religious excuses ! For many people the shedding of superstitious fiction is a period of enlightenment, leading to a freedom of thought and awareness available only to the truly free.

I become feisty and defensive. And, Yahoo Answers does this to me. I am tolerant of all people, till I get on here, and I can get really ticked off at the Christian questions and answers.

I do not loose faith in my own convictions-they are just strengthened by all the dumb Christian remarks against us---the Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists, etc.,. And, they often know nothing about what they are talking about.

When that happens, you are liable to fall under the influence of twisted, paranoid, stone-age thinking systems, such as religions or cults, or republicanism.

Hi! Been there! It means the devil won and he is laughing at you!
He loves to make us feel powerful and important. I'll pray for you because at this point you can't and won't see the light because of his smokescreens. Good luck!

It depends on what "your own convictions" are. That determines whether you are becoming disillusioned, corrupted, or enlightened.
