AGREED! HandWashing is the Number One thing you can do to prevent infections!
Don't use public ink pens....keep some alcohol get with you after shopping and using a public basket, or opening a door, or whatever! If you touch your face with bacteria on your hands (your eyes, or nose, mouth) your chances of getting an infection are very good. In can also inhale bacteria/virus so I would suggest you keep tissue for yourself and others and don't hesitate to offer a tissue or use one to prevent inhaling germies if someone is sneezing or coughing...in fact, avoid them completely.
Use a humidifier in the wintertime. This will keep the mucous in your nose and throat moist and the little germies won't be able to stick in your bronchi and make you sick.
Yes..wash your hands...regular soap...sing a little tune for 20 seconds, dry with towels and use the towel to turn off the faucet and open the door before you throw it away.
It might get tricky, but it's worth a good bit of hand washing to prevent sickness.
Flu shots do not make you sick!!! The virus is dead when it's injected into your body. You might have a sore arm or sore muscles, but you will not have the flu!! I'd get one if I were you, especially if you work in the public or around children, or have a chronic disease like diabetes.
And YES...hand santizers DO WORK!!! They are simply gelled alcohol which will kill almost anything on a surface. You may not necessarily get a virus, you might pick up a bacteria like strep; and we use these gels in the hospital, in home health, etc, you are wiped with an alcohol prep before getting injections. Yes, there is a reason for using it! They contain alcohol which is used to cleanse a number of things and it does kill viruses of a surface.
Great question that's helpful to others. godloveya.

1. Washing your hands well before eating
2. Exercise has been proven as the best prevention for colds & flu.
3. Eat vitamin C in your diet via: bell peppers, strawberries or oranges.
If you do catch the cold or the flu, take echinacea while you are sick, but stop taking it as soon as you get well. DO NOT take this while you are healthy, too much will kill the good bacteria that live in your body.
FYI antibacterial hand washes won't help at all, as both colds & flus are viruses, as as you see, they are only anti-BACTERIAL.

1. Was your hands after going out and before going out.
2. If you have a runny nose, use a tissue. Not your sleeve.

Make sure you practice good hand washing and you should maybe get the flu shot as a preventative measure. Cover your cough and keep clear of people who are experiencing flu like symptoms.

The best advice I can tell you is to avoid close sitting crowds...theatres, churches, doctor waiting rooms, elevators, and planes, buses and trains. And wash, wash, wash your hands a bizillion times a day, I would avoid shaking hands for now...we are in the heart of the flu season. Also carry one of those small bottles of that Purex hand washing gel...it's for those emergencies when you can't get to restroom to wash your hands. Try not to touch railings in public buildings too...those are about all the things that I watch for.

Hand washing regularly is vital. Especially if you take public transportation. Also, drink lots of water and get at least 8 hours of sleep - don't let yourself get run down. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits - a balanced diet and consider taking a multivitamin.
