Look again, Oregon (and most states) confiscates ALL uninsured vehicles found operating on public roads and THEN cite the driver with a $300-$500 fine... Laws lobbied for by the insurance companies. Beware, when you sign your drivers license you forfeit all constitutional rights.
Wouldn't it be neat if people driving on public roads had to drive at their own risk? Each and every individual insuring themselves against vehicle damage and personal injury? Our tort laws always were and are are still in effect allowing civil actions to be brought easily in the event of property damage or injury.
Mandatory insurance laws have now created a situation called Illegally driving while poor... BS

your license could be suspended till you get insurance and you have to show proof, and your car could get impounded. I had a friend who lost her license for a few months becuase she got into a small fender bender and she later found her insurance had lapse because of her then husband didn't take care of the insurance bill. She had to show proof that she had insurance. She also had to pay a fee to reinstate her license and so on.

That depends. I live in Wisconsin and it is not mandated by the state that a driver carry insurance on their vehicle. Full Coverage Insurance is required by any financial institution that gives you a loan for your car.
Most people think it's cool that we don't require insurance. I have heard that most often, the person involved in an accident that is not covered by insurance is usually found at fault. The other side of that, is that those of us that do carry insurance usually have to pay a little higher premium for living in WI.
