I got a three month old american staff terrier ( sorry i dont spell to good) last thursday from animal welfare. I am worried that he may be sick. All he is doing is sleeping and sleeping bearly playing at all he just lays around no interrest at all. He was throwing up and had diahreha quite bad, also a runny nose with green/yellow snot and his eyes were like draing a mucos.(sp) so i took him to the vet at the A/W but he was not there so a vet tech seen us. They gave us meds for kennel cough and worms. Its been about three days now and he is still just laying around sleeping. He doesnt want to eat nor drink just sleep. He might play for 5min then he is done. he wants to lay back down. Should i take him back to the vet?

Unfortunately I am in the NY area, I recently got a puppy, 4 days later I returned to where I got her, a shelter, and they hospitalized her for pneumonia. This was 2 1/2 weeks ago. She has very similar symptoms to your puppy, but she also had 105 temp. I would go see a regular vet, or return the pup, they should cover the costs, did they give you some sort of pet insurance for the initial 30 days or something? My puppy is at the shelter's animal hospital so it is free, thank god bc I can't afford it. If a puppy is NOT eating there is something WRONG!!!! Take him to a vet asap.

Get him to another vet immediately unless one of the meds is an antibiotic. As far as payments, stay away from the large clinics they are usually tight on their payment rules. Just go through the phone book and look for a smaller practice, most vets if they care will work with you on payments. My retired mother just worked out a payment plan for a $400 surgery on her cat. I wish you luck, it's like having a sick kid. Also, try to get something in them, fluids or otherwise, 3 months is really young -- one other thing, you can call your local humane society or any one of the pet rescues in your area for a vet who will work with you payment wise.

Dogs are like people in a way. They need time to heal and feel better. If the doctor gave you a week supply of meds or whatever you probably won't see results until the end of his treatment. Be patient and you are doing the right thing by actually taking him to the vet.

make sure you continue to give him his meds..
sometimes it takes a few days to "kick in"

in the meantime - you should see about taking him to a vet as soon as possible (like right away!) - it might be something quite serious (like Parvo).. if you are in financial difficluty ask around, there are rescue organizations that might help as well as some vets that will take deferred payments (I dunno about Chicagoland)..

Just keep taking him to the vet until he gets better.

I would take him to a different vet. There are a lot of things that puppies can get that can be fatal. If your puppy didn't receive all of his vaccinations then he could be in real danger.

it will take him time to get used to a new envirement, all the medicine is what is probably causing him to sleep. try to play with him a little bit at a time, dont forse him to do anything he dont want to do. i never take my pets to a vet, i have always treated them myself. when they have a upset stomach, i give them some warm milk, with a raw egg mixed well with it. for cold, runny noses, runny eyes ect. i give them liquid benadryll.
the one that we take, sometimes i give them tums for upset stomach and also for colds a baby asprin, a vet told me that you can give a pet most things that we take. just not a whole lot, so i mostly whatever i take for different sicknesses, when my pets get sick i give them whatever i would take for that sickness.
good luck and i hope your pet gets better

Yes, go to a different vet this time. He may need antibiotics. He could die if you don't get him help.
