Addiction has physical and psychological aspects. When you started taking something, it made you feel so good that when you went back to feeling normal it felt bad and you want to fix it by taking whatever made you feel "better". Have you ever studied it out why it feels like you feel better? It makes your brain produce a lot of certain hormones, or either blocks them from being made which is not normal. What you experience is artificial and if you want to experience what is real that really feels good because it's natural find a purpose to your life and you will not need artificial "feel goods" to get you through your day. It's no way to LIVE. If you are addicted to something, it is what you're living for, and you must ask yourself: Is whay you're living for worth dying for?

You can be a recovering addict but stay away from friends that did the drug scene...if you can find any not doing them these days...don't keep pain meds around the house.
My son tried everything there was at one time but has been clean for years now...he has compulsive/addiction behavior....he knows it...we know it....so I don't keep strong meds here to tempt him.....our family doctor knows it and doesn't prescribe addictive drugs to him either to help him......
So yes, you can have a life, just don't hang with the other drug users......inform the dentist or doctor you go to that you have a problem with addiction behavior and prefer them not give you something to take at home thats addictive if possible.
Congrats to you on wanting to stop, and Good Luck

Yes, my personal opinion is you can stop being an addict. Please don't be so hard on yourself. My friend was addicted heavily on speed after being in a very abuse relationship that almost cost her life.
She is now totally clear of all of that and has become a very Professional career minded woman. You can do this too, you just have to take control and build up the self esteem and the will power. It will be hard but have faith and you will succedd. Nothing in life comes easy. She hates going to Doctors and dentists and all alike as she also suffered bulima (dentists can tell acid in vomit eats away the teeth)and its all very daunting as everytime they ask about it and it reminds her of her darker days. But she tells her self how far she has come from those days and sees a positive side to it all.

I can think of two ways.
Get smart
Die
The middle is just hell!
Seriously though, I have seen documentaries about the Meth Stuff going on and as I understand it, the US has been set up by Mexican Cartels that are dumping very pure Meth in the market!
It is apparently the very pure stuff that causes the spikes in addictions! Logic tells me that if that is the problem you need to try to dilute the garbage to reduce it's hold and effects!

there is a "rehabilitational" course called p.m.a. that helps you to be a positive person. it can help you identify the REAL causes of the negativity in your life. drugs are not the problem its the decisions you make that are. find the course and it should heal you where it counts. around 3years sobriety are mine, and i never call my self an addict. there is nothing pos. about saying that you are. i don't focus on whether or not i'll do drugs, instead i focus on being a good person. and doing those things i believe make me that person!

You can get over being an addict, but probably not alone. If you have the resources, and the courage, to approach a serious help source, then yes, you can. It takes all that, tho.
