your best bet is to go to petfinder.com. the only problem is if you are looking to adopt they do not put all the animals on the site. I was intrested in a puppy i had seen on there and then where i got there i seen exactly what i was looking for. ( not the one i seen online) so your best bet is to find places that offer adoption. Pet rescues are usually pretty cheap my puppy was only $90.00 plus a $50.00 deposite for his nutering. Which i get back when i take him in.
I went and looked at pups at pet shop and they were anywhere form $300.00 to &1,200 some were even more!! plus rescuing an animal feels so rewarding. The name MIRACLE fits these dogs perfectly. Just find out about local shelters though i live in chicago so we have a have a adoption agencies. They are looking for a good home and arent too bad on price. Also think of it the pets will be greatful your giving them a second chance.
Good luck.

Classified ads are placed by BYBs. If you take the price of veterinary care into consideration as well, then that initial outlay is the wisest money you will spend when purchasing a dog. $200 may seem like a steal at the time of purchase as opposed to $1500, but when that dog needs hip surgery for $6K at the age of 2, you're going to wish you'd gone with the better bred dog. An 'average' GR is a poorly bred one. A show prospect will cost you thousands, but getting a pet quality pup from a great breeder will be much cheaper in the long run, and will also be healthier & have the correct temperament for the breed. Your choice. As for average price, you'll have to do your own research there. Most BYBs consider their pups worth just as much as well bred ones, so you can't just look at price

First you need to find some dogs that you are interested in. Go to akc.org to start. Then you find dogs that appeal to you, you research that breed to see if it will fit your lifestyle. When you have decided on a dog then look up that breeds rescue on Yahoo (Lab Rescue in AZ)

Petfinder.com therre are local breeders when you type in your zip code.I believe the price depends who you get it from. There are breeders and Shelter dogs there so prices do depend. But there are pictures and the dogs behavior usually posted on the site

Instead of going on-line, why don't you take a trip to your local animal shelter. I know that the ones in my area have websites. A simple phone call is all it takes to find out.
