Sounds like he needs to help himself by getting some therapy or something. That said, few men spend a lot of time talking about their feelings; that's what makes them men.

All you can do is tell him that you do value his opinion and let him come to terms with it. Then just keep asking him questions (not all the time, though) and make sure he gives you an answer.
But be warned, you are opening the box, and if he does say you bum does look big in that outfit, you can't complain about it.

Be very patient and loving, showing that what he thinks really does mean a lot to you. And that no matter what you are going to Love him.
Love is the answer to all questions, trust is the foundation all relationships should be built on.

Have you thought of telling him what you have told us? I think the fact that you alone have recognised that the people in his life seem to put him down might be enough to encourage him to stand up to this more and value his own oppinion and know that you are supporting him??? By the way this is not pul its a female perspective!

Make him feel he is the best and get his self esteem up. I know from experience that people tend to feel more confident about themselves when you compliments them for every good thing they do or say.
So take time to abserve all the good things about him and highlight, lay emphasis on them. You want him to be positively confident about himself.
Practice telling him that he is good as he is and go from there really. i hope this helps GL

You can keep asking him questions about how he feels on different issues and you can also ask him questions about things he has done in his past. If you are genuinely interested, your partner will pick this up and he will begin to believe that you are interested in him. Eventually, he will begin to open up to you. You don't need to coax him out of his shyness, just ask open ended questions and show genuine interest.

You may want to do a couples counseling or something of that kind, to help show him that communication is a good thing.
Do not push too hard though you may get a negative response.
