My 15 month old is very hard to get to sleep, even when it's completely obvious he's tired. I think a lot of it is that he wants his daddy, but my husband often doesn't get home till after the baby is sleeping, I try holding him off and keeping him awake, but he just cries and wants to be clingy, yawns and rubs his eyes the entire time, and most days he won't nap. We have a bedtime routine, but it's not working, and I notice that on days when my husband makes it home, bedtime goes a little easier. any ideas?

You need to set a consistant nap time schedule to start with. Like at 1:30 in the afternoon. Let him sleep for about 2 hours. Keep a regular bedtime as well. Maybe try getting him ready for bed at 8:30. Turn off the TV and keep the lights dim. Use quiet voices and read stories. This will help ease his mind and help relax him. We do this every night in our home and also the nap thing. My kids are asleep by 9:00. At that age, sometimes it helps to lay down by the child until he falls asleep. Just be consistant, and make sure he sleeps in his own bed. A child who overly tired will fight you on going to bed. Make sure he is well rested.

Maybe your husband can spend some time with him in the morning before he goes to work. If he can you just have to be strong and put him down anyway and keep telling him he'll see him in the morning. If he can't its understandable that he wants to see his father and then I would advise putting him down longer during the day or for another nap and then letting him stay up (its not ideal though).

See if your husband can call home and sing a lullabye.
