what is the difference between signs and symptoms (medically)

Signs are objective...it's what doctors can actually prove, i.e. fever
Symptoms is what the patient reffers as having or feeling but is subjective, therefore cannot be proven by the doctor, i.e. nausea

A symptom is subjective evidence of disease; it is a feeling.
