I have nightmares almost everyday and I'm not exactly sure why. I dont think that its stress because usually great during the day. but sometimes i do get depressed because I'm on lots of medicine for my glaucoma. i've been recommended things such as dreamcatchers and praying but i'm atheist. are there any other ways? what is imagery rehearsal?

I have pretty horrible nightmares too. I try to watch something calming before I go to sleep. Good luck ~~~

I feel for you that you do not believe in anything...God can and will help you. Even if you do not believe at first, just talk to him as you would a friend. Ask him to reveil the truth to you. Nightmares have meaning as well as dreams. your subconscious is dealing with an underlying problem. I have troubling dreams, not nightmares. It makes a person depressed and tired. Usually when I ask for something to be removed it eventually is. Document your dreams. They usually come in sessions of threes the third dream is usually the last. Are you dreaming about the same thing? Work it out in your mind how you would want it to end. Take the power away from the nightmare. It is yours.

I've always thought that the best way to stop having nightmares is to actually quit sleeping altogether...Just stop sleeping. If you find yourself getting tired, whatever you do don't sleep. When you finally pass out you will be in such a deep REM that if you do experience a nightmare, you won't be able to wake up from it and it will change your life forever!

That question came up on q&a not to long ago. One of the answers was to call out for Jesus to help you. Now I realize that you are an atheist, but you don't believe in God anyway, so what's the harm in giving it a try? I generally don't have nightmares, thank goodness, but a couple of nights after I read that solution I had one. It took a couple of trys, but it worked for me. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you.

i have lots of dreams and nightmares
especially if i think alot before i sleep, or watch films with vivid imagery. just try and calm yourself and empty your mind before you fall asleep.
or, train yourself to realise its just a bad dream. i usually will go through the nightmare, being scared, realise its a dream, and then can do anything i want in my dream, even though im still a sleep. its kind of wierd i suppose, you have to have a good imagination! i think its called lucid dreaming, or something of the sort. hope this helps, hope you can over come your dreams :)

Sometimes medication can cause nightmares. So can certain things you eat. Try changing your diet. Eat more vegetables. Or talk to your doctor about changing your medication.

PS--As a fellow sufferer, I can tell you that there are certain "herbal" remedies that work quite well.

Ask your doctor to substitute marijuana for your glaucoma medicine. You'll just have goofy dreams, and you'll be very popular at parties.
