Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there
is neither male nor female: for ye all are one in Christ. If they love God than they will love you. The Word says as a man thinketh be it unto him. So if you want to work on a friendship, keep an open mind and let God lead you. See him or her as God sees them. I will pray for you and your new friend. God bless!

Friendship is friendship. Hating you for something someone else did before you were born and that you do not like is not friendship.
Whether that is ok or not is up to you. Do you want a friend that hates you? What kind of friend is that?
It's really more a matter of a question for jews: "If you're Jewish, would you be my friend even though my grandparents were Nazi Germans?" Of course, maybe your grandparents were not Nazi Germans, so maybe I am presuming a bit about your heritage, but ethics is a personal matter that you must decide for yourself.
I mean, would they love you if you were Jewish and liked to torture babies with red-hot irons? You have to be your own person.

Its totally ok
just be extra sensitive, often people will blame all German people or even German people who were not born there or their great grandchildren, even if they are like 1/4 Jewish ancestry too. Especially if they have German names. Not everybody does it. Many people do though and few will even admit it.
Just be ready to absorb any misplaced hate or anger, pretty much like black folks or any minority has to do.
Strong friendships can happen too. Many people are reasonable and smart too.

It's not your fault for what has happen in history so I'm sure if your jewish friend is someone reasonable he wouldn't hate you for that.Plus you and your friend will be making a good example for showing this elimination of prejudice that was present for so many years in history.
Good luck man

I'm part German. Most of the Jewish folk I met were very good to me. They didn't carry a chip on their shoulder, nor hold me personally responsible for the Holocaust. (The H was a terrible thing, as any ethnic-cleansing is.)

Not only is it admirable to have a Jewish friend, if you are Christian we are to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Jews are skeptical of Christians because of the Pope's involvement in persecuting the Jews, Protestant Christians and non-believers who would not convert to Catholicism. In the Crusades and in Germany the Jews were killed by so-called christians. Muslims were involved in WWII killing Jews also.

Unless you are old enough to have actually taken part in the Nazi atrocities or subscribe to the Nazi doctrines of hate, it's not likely that any Jew would hold you responsible for what others of your nationality have done. Reasonable Jews will know that you are not responsible for the actions of others.
