GGt is an enzyme produced by the liver and it is very sensitive to any inflammation to the liver. It can be elevated for a very large number of reasons. The two most obvious and easy to fix are medications and alcohol. All alcohol and most pills are processed in the liver. If you were drinking before the blood was drawn--even several days before if you were drinking heavily, like if you were out partying, then that could have elevated your numbers. If that wasn't it, then you and your doctor should look at the meds you are taking. After both of those issues have been addressed, then the lab should be redone. If you GGT is still high, then your doc will probably want to do more labs, because you could be looking at hepatitis, a chronic inflammation of the liver which can be mild or severe. Quite a lot of people are walking around with elevated liver enzymes due to meds and alcohol and they are just fine, but you do need to keep an eye on it.
