Tell your parents! Afraid they might "ground you"???? Tell them, why hire an attorney that is gonna cost more than your ticket to begin with--to see if he/she can get it lowered by maybe 100$ if that--you will still pay the attorney more than the trouble is worth. NOT A GOOD IDEA---------if you are underage then YOUR PARENTS ARE THE ONES THAT SHOULD help you with it and then YOU can make arrangements to PAY THEM BACK.

Defensive driving course will take it off your insurance and the points off your driving record, court will do that without an attorney present. You don't need a lawyer, it's money down a hole, you'll still be paying a fine. :) AND, PLUS,
if you make the court have a hearing on your ticket, they will add on court costs and the cost of the officer appearing!!! So that fine will end up around $700 or more. Just pay the fine, send it in with a letter asking for information on Defensive driving school.

Assuming Wisconsin law is the same as California, and assuming this is just a simple traffic infraction, the way you would avoid insurance or drivers license consequences would be by going to traffic school. You don't need a lawyer for that. The mere fact that you have an attorney is not going to change the fine or the consequences of a conviction (and even if it did, the lawyer would cost more than the savings). (Of course, if this is something more than a simple traffic ticket, other advice might be needed.)
It is likely that the traffic court will send you a "courtesy notice" which will tell you all of your options (yes, that will go to your house), or the court may have a web site you can consult.

I'm not a lawyer, but, it can help you to get a lawyer. I don't know how old you are because you have to be 18 to get a lawyer without your parents. Also keep in mind that with a lawyer you are going to spend as much money as the amount of the fine. The only good thing is that they can get it, (maybe, no guarantees) either dismissed, lowered or they can get it expunged off your record permanently, which could save you a lot of money on insurance. It is possible that they could mail a letter to your house. I would ask for a payment plan and take defensive driving.

Plead Not Guilty most of the time they won't spend the money for a trial for a misdemeanor and will drop the charge, and if you do pay the fine pay by check and pay 3or 4 dollars over they will have to send you a check for what you overpaid, don't cash it, throw it away that way they can't write the transaction off and it won't go onto your insurance.

pay the ticket, you deserve it.
and think logically.....you are gonna pay an attorney 250 bucks to lower your ticket 200 bucks.....so you have to pay a total of 551 instead and have it take 3 times longer due to attorney, etc.
just pay the ticket, whimps and liars fight tickets cause they think they have something to prove when no body could give a craps a$z.
