my friend is ready to lose weight and i'm proud of her because she has the potential to have an amazing body. but i need help because i don't know if she can lose that much in that time, safely(kind of a special occasion..marks our friendship anniversary). she's in her early 20's, around my height maybe 5'8, and she weighs like 220, however to look at her you'd think she weighed 180. she's built athletically and seems to carry the weight well. she has access to a treadmill, and dumb bells/resistance bands, but no gym. what advice can i give her to help her out because i'm her personal cheering section. can it be done? i don't want her to give up.

First off, I commend you as a friend! Keep up the good work. I would really have her set an appointment up with a nutritionist (nothing fancy, no fad diets such as weight watchers point system). Just have the Nations calculate her daily calorie intake based off her height and weight. Make sure she tells the nutritionist that she wants a two to three day sample menu of what her meals would look like and tell her to tell the nutritionist what foods she likes. This way the nutritionist can customize it to what SHE likes to eat. I have found that people stick to a healthy way of eating (not a diet, cause this is for life) if they eat what they prefer. If money is a issue that's an excuse. There is no price tag on your health.
Second, have her do her cardio on the treadmill in the morning, before she eats for about 25mins. Have her increase her time by five mins. each week. Make sure that she changes the speed and incline periodically throughout the workout. Lets say for example, steady pace for 3mins, incline and faster pace for 1min. etc. increase as she gets accustomed. Dumbbell and resistance bands. There are a lot of exercises that she can do with these. I would recommend going to the book store or surfing the net for pictures of different exercises so she sees how the exercise is done. Make sure she divides her weight by two and have her drink that much in ounces. I personally drink a gallon and a half of water a day. Success in weight loss comes through support and motivation and a CLEAN diet. I can't state that she can't have sweets, but maybe once a week for a while, that means one meal, or one snack that week with normal portion size. Then she can go once a month with a cheat meal instead of once a week. She can workout after her cardio or later in the afternoon. I prefer the afternoon for my workouts for many reasons (it would take me too long to explain). I hope this is a starting point for some ideas to get her on her way. Good luck to the both of you!!

of course it is possible and do not let anyone doubt her!
the only doubt that can stop her is herself!
simply having a supportive friend is a good start

if you really need to lose some weight and you have the physical ability you might consider what works for me
get some aerobic exercise daily (GRADUALLY build up your exercise session to 30 minutes then gradually build up to 45, 60 minutes)
the best way without doubt is jogging (start with fast walking and do not increase your distance too soon)
you can also use an elliptical machine or stationary bike
do not drink soda pop or eat fried foods or buttery foods
drink a lot of water and tea
go vegetarian and eat small meals each day such as fruit and oatmeal and rice & beans
make soy protein drinks if possible because its important to make sure you get enough protein when trying to lose weight
let me know how it goes

yes its possible. you can try this:

100% ORIGINAL ZHEN DE SHOU FAT LOSS CAPSULE.

IT IS SAFE, NATURAL AND VERY VERY VERY EFFECTIVE!!!.

Zhen de Shou is a kind of botanical slimming medicine.
It is originated in the old and mysterious primitive
forest of Shenogjia where there grows a plant called -
crategus pinnatifida, which is also popularly called
Shenxianye (fairyleaves). EPT experts found that this
crategus pinnatifida has magic effect for slimming. In
Shennongjia Natural Reserve, tourists can taste and
smell bean curd coocked in water with fairy leaves.
Local people are all familiar with the experience that
if a person takes (eats) fairy leaves for a week, he
will reduce weight by 1.5-4 kg.

Slimming theory applied by Zhen De Shou

1.) Consuming surplus fat: Zhen De Shou contains
active ingredients that can activate fat metabolism
and change white cells of fat depot into brown cells
fro heat production. White cells of fat depot exist in
great amount in parts such as belly, waist, arms and
buttocks.

2.) Curbing the absorbtion of fat: Konjac contained in
fairy leaves can curb the activity of lipase and cut
the absorption of fat by intestinal canal. Other
ingredients in konjac have strong appetence with fat
contained in food and these ingredients and fat can
change into non-absorbing compound and be discharged.

3.) Controlling the intaking of energy: in the human
body, konjac can decompose three natural substances
that consume heat in the human body and thus prevent
heat from forming fat. In the process, the person
drinking the pills has a feeling of being hungry.

Weight Watchers is the best I have found. Using their system, together with lots of exercise, she should be able to get close.
I have a friend who lost 25 lbs. by training for the Breast Cancer Walk ~ no change to her diet. I lost 20 lbs. in 4 months at WW without much exercise. Both together should do the trick.

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Find out about fastest way to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs, water retention and secret trick used by models to flatten their tummy before an event.

Reading a book will take you hours but the information on a post, taking minutes to read, is not enough. The webpage below has just enough to know what you need to know. Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

Yes it's possible. It's probably also reasonably safe considering she is somewhat athletic and young. It is somewhat rapid weight loss, but not that dramatic. I've known of peole taking off 50 lbs in 2 mos. That is borderline deadly.
