I am an olive freak! At Thanksgiving and Christmas, they have to hide the olives from me, because I eat the entire 2 big bowls of them before they even get put on the tables! When I buy them once a month, I buy them by the case. The store must think I am really crazy, but I eat that many olives. I like the green ones and the black ones. I usually buy the case of green ones and then I buy about 4-5 cans of the black ones a month. I think I could live on these and not have any other food or drink, because I also like the olive juice. It's really yummy! The thing I don't have to worry about, is that my 2 boys hate olives, so I know that all of the olives will be mine!!!!!! Does anyone else love olives that much?

I love 'em, and am really lucky because I live on the Aegean coast of Turkey, which is covered in millions of olive trees.

My mother-in-law actually goes out and picks green olives from the mountainside where she lives. She then puts them in 5 litre jars and covers them in water (after she has washed them of course), and adds lemon and a bit of salt; she changes the water regularly and after about 2 weeks they are ready to eat, and they taste fantastic.

If she picks black olives, the process is slightly different, and they have to kept in sacks, before they are washed etc.,

In some of the villages not far from where I live, they still get olive oil by crushing the olives between huge, round, flat stones. It is amazing to witness. Nowadays though, they have the factories and, not that I am biased or anything (!), I think that this region of Turkey produces the best olives and olive oil in the world.

I am so lucky.

The best olives are Spanish olives. Don't listen to Italians, Greeks, French, North Africans, Israelis or Lebanese or anyone else. I am Irish-American so I have no prejudice. Spanish olives absolutely rock! Farther south in Spain, the better they taste. Oh! I want some right now!

I love all olives except the canned black olives which are disgusting and no self respecting person of Mediterranean descent would be caught dead eating one.
Cannned black olives as you may or may not know are green olives that have been treated with lye.
I like Kalamata olives ,oil cured Sicilian olives,
big round salty Greek Volou olives and the French Nicoise olives

I adore olives, especially the black ones. The ones sold in jars have less flavour so I normally buy them from the delicatessen counter in Tesco's.
I now wish that you had not posted this question as supplies have not been replenished since Christmas and now I really fancy a few.
I do not eat in Italian restaurants but I used to look forward to eating at TJ's in Bournemouth as they used to serve olives with the bread before the starter.

COr yeah! Yummy with a glass (or two!) of wine.

I particularly like the kalamata (Greek) ones. Not so keen on stuffed olives. There are far better things to stuff I think. Particularly after a few glasses of wine and some olives!

I tried some olives a couple nights ago for the first time. Black was okay, green were awful. Heard that olives are like red wine or coffee - it takes time to appreciate them. I like all the feta cheese that come with them though.

Greek olives are my favorite. Pitted black olives run a close second. Great for salads, stuffings and eating off your fingertips. Green olives with pimentos (Spanish Olives) can be used in salads or dips. Any way you look at it, olives are great.

I'm not worthy of the ten points but I just want to totally agree with you that olives are great---greek, black or whatever. I love to put them in salads. When I go to Port-A-Subs I make sure they put their black olives all over my sandwich. I also enjoy eating them all by their adorable little selves. Yes, yes, you have good taste.

Yes. Not the canned kind, but some good Greek or Italian ones.

Which reminds me of a joke from Los Angeles:

"Did you hear that Popeye got lost in LA?
He went down on Olive, thought it was Grand"
