just be yourself if a relaionship starts with that, then you know you did what you needed to do, if things dont work out then you know you have a friend and not a relationship

If he's nice, what's the confusion? Are you checking out or interested in another guy? If so, you should definately pick the better guy. How you define "better" is really up to you. But by normal standards, better is someone who treats you with respect, and puts as much effort into the relationship as you do. And remember, looks and money are superficial.
If it's just that your not sure if this is the guy for you, well... you should at least be honest with him about your feelings. Don't lead him on, only to dump him later when you realize he's not the guy for you.
Whatever the reason, keep in mind, how would you like to be treated/approached if you were in his place?

What exactly is the problem, from the general sound of it sounds like you don't have much self-confidence in your ability to have a relationship. Be around people that make you feel good, and all will turn out well
