you want to focus on eating whole foods that have not been processed. basically every meal should contain perishable food items such as:

whole eggs
dairy
fish
poultry
lean meats

sweet potatos
whole oats
beans
lentils
whole grain rice

olive oil
safflower oil
sunflower oil
flax seed oil
hemp seed oil
assorted types of nuts

and all the fruits and vegetables that you can get your hands on

VEGETARIAN
because its not some "diet" but a healthy life long plan
you are training to be an athlete so ignore the low carb suggestions
high carb/high fiber vegetarian is the way to go

do not drink soda pop or eat fried foods or buttery foods
drink a lot of water and tea
eat small meals each day such as fruit and oatmeal and rice & beans
make soy protein drinks if possible because its important to make sure you get enough protein when trying to lose weight

have fun with soccer!

When I need to drop a few pounds and need a structured diet, I depend on frozen entrees.

I find them on sale and stock the freezer. I look for frozen meals under 400 calories, preferably 300 or under so I can supplement fresh fruit or veggies with each meal. Suprisingly, most brands offer a selection of meals with lower calories- even the cheapy banquet! Turkey meal is under 300 and costs me 99 cents!

OF course, you should also consider; fat content(types of fat), sodium, carbs etc...

I do two meals a day. Breakfast is usually two slices of low calorie bread(40 calories a piece) with no calorie butter spray and sugarfree jam. A 100 calorie or under single serve yogurt and when I have time some egg beaters scrambled. On the go I will grab a vita rich breakfast bar or carnation breakfast shake.

If you're interested in a vegetarian diet, here's a link that explains it using a very basic diagram:

Personally, I've found that I've had more energy and generally felt better as a vegetarian. However, be sure to take an iron and B vitamin supplement if you go that route. Best of luck!

Common sense diet.
egg whites,no yolks. Fries and such in your oven only and with cooking spray, never oil or butter or out at burger king. dressings, cheese, sauces, fat free only. Fake meats have very little, usually no fat and never cholesterol and loaded with protein and other vitamins. If you can stomach it. Portion your food. If the bag says "9 tator tots" make only 9. Its hard at first but once your stomach shrinks itll be nothing.

Low carbs - High protein diet. Cut out a lot of breads - eat a limited amount of vegetables and increase your protein - meats - lean meat.

The best diet is a balanced diet. Atkins, South Beach and other fad diets are crap.

It depends on your body type!

You don't need any branded products. You DO need however to spend time reading in order to understand how to predict and interpret your body's reactions.
