I think one gulp is fine. If kids grow up to think alcohol is a forbidden evil, they may want it more. But if they see their folks with a healthy attitude about it, then they are more likely to respect it in the future

yes absolutely. there is nothing wrong with a pouring a sip or 2 into a glass. My parents let me have a "glass" of wine on special occassions as a child and it never hurt me. In fact when all my friends were puking thier guts up in HS I was the sober one because alcohol wasn't a forbidden fruit.

Yes i would. I remember that when i was younger that my parents would let us drink a little sip of it at midnight just like our parents. We would always celebrate with my mom's twin sister and her kids, and they also got a little sip. Her kids, my cousins, are all about the same age as myself and my brothers.

So to deny my kids on what i was allowed to do, isn't the right thing to do.

We do it several times per year. Since they were around 6 we have allowed them to have a liqueur glass full of champagne on major holidays. I will note that their refills are sparkling grape juice.

Actually both my sons got their first taste of alcohol before they were one. A touch of Guinness on St. Paddy's day.

Yes. Just a sip. Because let's be honest, what are the chances the kid is going to LOVE the taste of it and beg for more? I HATED it when I tried it when I was a kid.

my youngest was 8 or 9 but had Manichewietz Kosher wine, they didn't want to try champagne. At home only, my girls are very responsible drinkers now, rarely partake. They are 24 & 26 now.

There are so many choices -- why not sparkling cider?
If a parent has a no tolerance for drinking under age, it would be wrong.
In the 1980's i would have said sure, why not.
BUT today, I say no. not until they are 18.

I would and I did. He's 16 and he got a sip of my champagne.
I think it takes the mystery out of the whole alcohol thing if a kid can have a little sip to see that it isn't all that exciting.

If you enable them to learn respect for alcohol at an early age they will respect it later in life...high school, college, etc. Essentially, by allowing them to participate you:
1. teach them that it's not taboo
2. that a little alcohol can be fun
3. they don't have to hide things from you as a parent
