I just found out that my dad might have lung cancer. The doctor said it was likely, but they have to run more tests. If anyone reading this has been through this themselves or with a loved one, can you tell me, what does "might" mean, when it comes to cancer? Is it really more likely that he does have it, then doesn't, if they are testing for it? Or is it a 50/50 type thing?

Might means I really do not know. I believe this Doctor, should of approach this in a different way. To suggest you have cancer will make the person and his family worry and it might be unnecessary.
My husband was just diagnosed with emphysema about 3 months ago. The doctor just told him since he smokes that she thought that he was not getting enough oxygen in his lungs. I appreciated that, rather then for her to say your husband is dying. Not until she finished all her test on him did she tell us both that he does have emphysema and only has 25% lung capacity.
I think, and it is just my opinion, that a doctor should do the tests first and then diagnosed.
I wish you both the best, and may God bless you both.

The word might means the Dr is not completely sure so he needs to look into it futher. The word Cancer sparks fear in all of us try to stay calm for your Dads sake. When the tests come back and you know what you are dealing with, if it is cancer then l suggest that you find a support group l found this very helpful when l went through this with my Dad.

Wishing you and your Dad good luck.

When the doctor says you might that means he may have a chance of having lung cancer. doesnt mean he neccessarily has it but he COULD. do you get what I mean because a might is like a maybe with a 50/50 chance. Ohh yea may god support your family if that situation ever comes. Anyway i hope I helped

It means the doctor suspects lung cancer but he or she is not certain with out further tests. CT scan, MRI, or tissue biopsy.
