When the British visit the US, do they cross the border, or does the border cross them? When the French visit Quebec do they cross the border or does the border cross them? When the Italians visit almost anywhere around the Mediterranean Sea, do they cross borders or do the borders cross them? When the Mongolians visit almost anywhere in eastern Europe and most of western Asia, do they cross borders or do the borders cross them? And on, and on and on. Then we can talk about the Greeks, the Portugese, the Chinese, etc. etc. etc.
Like it or not, that is the way of the world. It has not changed over the last 2000 years and will probably not change over the next 2000.

Both, the Mexican-American War, which they started by attacking American citizens in the newly annexed state of Texas started the whole ordeal. The people who were already in the American southwest pre-war were given automatic citizenship, although racism made life hard for many Mexican Americans they survived and in some cases thrived in the west. With the gold rush came a massive population boom for California and many other western states, and immigration at that time was also an issue, many people came from Peru, Chile and Mexico as well as almost every other nation in the world to participate, but gold rush led to greed and mass deportations, just like then many of the issues we face today were around then. But in 1965 American ended the migration-workers program, and deported thousands of people. People still came, in 1986 amnesty was granted for those who were hear before 1986, but still more people came. In 2001 Amnesty was granted again for those who were married to an American Citizen, but still more came, now it is estimated that 20-25 million people are here, our social healthcare, education, welfare, and all other social programs are on the verge of collapse, streets and highways are falling apart, and traffic has doubled in the last 5 years in many cities, disease which were eradicated 50 years ago are now spreading unchecked, those who came here after 1986 are illegal aliens and need to be sent home, plain and simple. The border crossed thousands of people over 160 years ago; none of them are alive today.

I am pretty sure that they crossed the border considering we bought that land from them after the Mexican War.

If you can find one, living in the US Southwest, who is over 162 years old then the border crossed him.
Good luck, I hope this helps.
