I have had a 97 dodge neon 2.0 for 4yrs now, junk i tell you.My mom let an older man work on it to fix a oil leak, when we got it back the leak was not fixed and the transmission was slipping. We ended up replacing everything but the trans (i wouldnt face that was the problem.)A hose got stuck in the timing belt while repairing something else. The head needs to be resealed again because the bolts are stripped.Long story short the trans will only shift into 3rd when it feels like it,and the head needs new bolts. It runs.It seems like when it heats up the trans will not work properly.Other than those major problems....what do you think a dealer ship would say to trading this in on a car about 3-4k?maybe lower just to get rid of it?

My husband and i are buying a house and i really dont need that coming along but i have over $850 in recipes.i was hoping $1000 for it,i know the trans is something i must not know about because i have had offers for it but i would feel bad if i sold a peice of junk to someone i know....i would be even more pissed off if someone fixed it with no problem.

The new car dealer will only pretend to be giving you some money for it because he wants your new car sale. If you go in first and say you have no trade in but want to buy the car at the "dealer's invoice cost", he'll probably say ok. Then later, after you've gotten the net cost of the new car (delivered out the door), say, "by the way, if I trade in my neon, how much less than my dealer invoice price you just quoted will I pay?" His answer: "Sorry your cars not worth anything to us".

Maybe $500, if they are feeling generous. But it IS a 10 yr old car.

If the interior is in decent shape you may get more by parting it out.
