Shih Tzu's are good house dogs. They shed very little and are easily trained.
Labs like to chew and jump around.

It depends on how much time you have to train it.
Lab's can make great house dogs but only with a lot of training. We had a lab and through his puppy years he wanted to EAT everything. Not to be naughty but because he could. I'd recommend crate training so he's never left to roam around without supervision but still feels include in the household.
Good luck. They make great family pets but obviously as with any dog it'll take time to house break them. My dog although so far proving to be an angel doesn't get left alone in the house with out supervision. Given the opportunity I'm sure he'd find something naughty to do.

I had a lab and he was great in the house. He did have to be brushed regularly to keep down on the shedding but otherwise grooming was not bad. He was easy to bath because he loved water. Labs are not little dogs and will need some room to exercise.

I have a lab. Awesome breed very loyal and very good family dog. Lbs arent aggresive so if you are looking for Protection in a dog labs usually arent the answer. Labs really dont take alot of grooming as said above. Their coats are water proof and produce natural oil were it makes it harder for the dog to get dirtier. Now labs can be expensive in their senior years. Usually hip problems surface, sane with goldens but as long as the dog doesnt take a beating to the hips and is given enough excersice and is feed properly it should be fine. Labs really are great dogs, but make sure they are right for you they love their owners and love time with you so if you dont have wenough spare time lab really arent ideal for you

There is no "perfect" house dog. It all depends on how you bring the animal up. All dogs will make a great indoor pet with the proper training. We had a chocolate lab for well over 8 years, he was wonderful inside. Very easy to house train and great with the children. He would sleep under the crib or on the floor in one of the kids rooms, as if he were protecting them. Again, it is all on how you train them as to if they will be a good choice for an indoor pet. Good luck on your search.

The word "Lab" (in this case) is short for Labrador Retriever. They were bred to go and fetch EVERYTHING. That's why they are such a help to the handicapped. I would recommend asking a vet about types of dogs that is low-strung/has less excercise requirements. I would recommend a Boxer, or Boston Terrier. Jack Russels are infamous for being difficult to train. Bull dogs are bred (now, anyway) to be mellow and calm.
But with all breeds, dogs require training to fit into family life. They aren't programed to do everything you want them to, and avoid the things that are off limits.
Below are some websites that should help.
Good Luck!

I love labs, so my answer would be yes, they make a great house dog. Labs crave human companionship therefore, they should always be an indoor dog.
PS-in answer to your question about the best dog food- most labs do really well on the Eukanuba Diet

A lab is a good pet in general. They are loyal, good around children, and a good guard dogs. A lab should get up to an hour outside everyday (excluding when it rains), be fed twice a day and be loved by its owner. Brush the fur once a week to avoid too much shedding. :)

I have labradors and trust me when I say Labradors are not good house dogs. They need lots of exercise, they love to be outdoors, to swim, run, chase, and play play play.
A good house dog would be something small, maybe a chihuahua, a yorkshire terrier, etc. If you want something a little less fragile you could go with a jack russell terrier or a rat terrier (which looks very similar) but they too need lots of exercise; however, it's a lot easier to let themr una round the house and get out some energy instead of letting a huge dog leap about like a nut!
Good luck on your puppy search!

oh, they are wonderful dogs! Loving, loyal, easy to train, good with kids. You can't go wrong with a lab. Try lab rescue before you choose one, save a life and already housebroken! Labs DO NOT need lots of grooming, that person may have been thinking of a golden retriver with the long hair!

It's great that you're checking first before you get a dog. So many people don't bother and simply get a dog on an impulse and then find the dog is not suitable. This leads to heartache, both for the person concerned and for the poor dog who then usually ends up being put in a shelter.
For loads of information on choosing a suitable dog - check out http://www.advice-on-pet-care-and-pet-product-supplies-online.com/Choosing-a-suitable-dog.html - you'll find all sorts of useful information there.
You'll also find a list of dog breeds and their characteristics together with pictures to help you make your decision.
