I used to work out alot, but I took a few months off. I just started up again a few days ago, and when I woke up my muscles felt like they were shaking.

DOMS!! (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)

You did a number on your muscles and worked them harder than they can handle. If you are just starting back, this will happen again and again until your muscles are used to the work you are making them do. Pull back slightly and wait to go all out until you have been working out for a few weeks consistently again.

good luck!

Soreness means you overdid it. Shaking means they didn't have enough glycogen in storage to properly perform.

Soreness isn't necessarily a bad thing, you need to break the muscle before rebuild it. Don't forget *stretching* them AND drinking a lot of water! If you don't have any moral or physical contraindications, take some creatine. It helps with pain.

Shaking IS the problem. You need to eat enough carbs to have them in the muscle to produce ATP, which leads to muscle contractions AND de-contraction.

Without proper nutrition, performance often is suboptimal, no matter how much previous training we might have done.

This sore feeling you have is due to an accumulation of lactic acids on your muscle tissues. The muscle cells produces these acids to protect itself from tearing up.
Although there are no immediate solutions to this, taking long warm baths help the clearing and removal of the acids.
The best solution is avoiding it in the first place. Try setting up an exercise pattern. Take walks during evening. Swim at your local indoor swimming pool. Be active and eat well.

Your glycogen stores in muscle tissue is depleted. Recoup for a couple days. Try complex carbs (Breads veggeies, &/or potato)about an hour before work out. Then some fruit 20 minutes prior will help these shakes. Remember to hydrate during workouts this will help with nutrient transfer and recoup.

You over did it. Take a long cool bath to relax your muscles.
