My opinion is that a lot of the more goofy questions are just fakes, people trying to get attention because they are not quite right in the head.
Some of the basic questions are simple issues of inexperience and good advice is something the person needs.
More pressing medical questions are asked because some people really are ignorant and do not understand their dog is suffering. Dogs handle pain better than humans, they don't yell at us and say "Hey! I need a doctor!" If a person is not in tune with their dog then they come here to see what others think. That is the time for us to step in and tell them they need immediate vet care, don't waste time, it's very important.
I wish everyone treated their dog the way they should. But in our world there are people that get pets and have no understanding of how to take care of them. There are too many people breeding their mixed dogs with no experience and they don't care what kind of home the puppy goes to, so that's what happens, they get a bad home.
My hope is that at least by coming on here and asking it is showing that they see there is something wrong with the dog and they want to learn what to do. I try to help out when I can, and others do as well.
What I hate even more are the stupid responses some people post. That's worse.

That is exactly what happened to me when I first started to frequent this category at times I wish I could find out where these idiots live so I could call the SPCA on them or go take the animal away from them. It's stupidity plain and simple, I have lost count of the idiotic questions that contain the line "and dont tell me to take it to the vet because I cant afford it" If you cant afford a vet than you are abusing your pet, because if it was a human child that was refused medical care they would go to jail.... dogs/cats/people/pets all deserve to have access to medical care at all times no matter the cost, denying an animal health care because you have no money means you shouldnt even have gotten a pet in the first place if you arent willing to spend money.....they obviously have enough to spend money on the internet every month, why not pay instead into pet insurance which costs about the same per month and covers all medical costs, or why not admit that if you cant afford to care for an animal medically you shouldnt have it.... It all comes down to the superiority complex humans have, where some of us think that dogs/cats are just "animals" and their life isnt as valuable as human life. That is the underlying attitude that causes people to deny their pets medical care... it funny how the same people would probably think it is wrong when humans deny their children proper healthcare but its ok to let other animals suffer... humans are sick and ignorant, thats why I love dogs and cats so much because they are fundamentally different than us and do not have the same kind of cruel ignorance.

I am often saddened by some of the situations I read about for many pets. I sometimes wonder what someone may be thinking when they say something like "my dog has several puncture wounds from a dog fight and is lethargic what should I do" good grief, I just want to scream really. I have 4 pets, 3 cats, one dog, I did work in an animal hospital for 8 years and I have seen what happens to neglected pets, it is horrible. I really believe that some humans just should not have pets. God Bless.

My dog does not react to being hugged - she tolerates it. The only time she really enjoys being "grabbed" and hugged is when someone comes home from a long day out, or when I hug her after a few days over at a friends house. Other than that she hates being hugged. Like I said; she never growls, snaps, bites, shows teeth, or reacts at all when being hugged - she just tolerates it. I don't hug her a lot because I know she doesn't like it. Would I do this to some random dog? No. I don't approach any random dog. The only dog I know that enjoys being hugged and doesn't mind is my friend's Golden Retriever. I still don't really hug him.

Many ignorant people come here and ask for expert veterinary advice from an audience that doesn't know the basics about their pet, let alone pet medicine. Even a veterinarian couldn't give accurate diagnoses to many of these questions without doing a hands on exam, and lab work.
I feel bad for all the pets owned by folks who repeatedly ask silly questions here.

I am saddened by the rampant animal care ignorance. Many, if not all, the persons asking these questions have access to a television, a library, a phone, or the Internet. All of these make animal care information available to them prior to their decision to own a pet. Sad that most people don't plan in advance for the responsibilities of pet ownwership, or even know the responsibilities exist.

I sometimes feel very, very frustrated by the lack of knowledge people have. I left a job with security, health benefits and steady paycheck to go into helping people and dogs have happier lives together. I own and Operate a dog day care and teach basic obedience and manners classes to people and their dogs.
I've been involved in rescue for several years, also. I love dogs and have chosen in middle age to work with them.
I am encouraged at least, that people are asking SOMEBODY! I just get frustrated at some of the answers that range from simple ignorance to downright abuse.

I am with you on this one, a few times I wanted to answer with if this were happening to you would you run to the er or check with y answers first? But I did not, I have gotten tired of saying run to the vet, I doubt that they do anyway
With this said if you have a legit question the dog is not knocking on deaths door or bleeding to death situations like that I see no reason why you can't ask a question here but go to the vet first with it is needed then ask us Thanks for letting me vent

Yes, it is pathetic that people that think advice from strangers on Yahoo Answers for questions that ONLY their dog's veterinarians should be answering is suffice. Nothing is a substitute for your vet's professional advice. Nothing.
If you do not have the moolah to get your dog veterinary care, then you do not have the right to have a dog either.

Yes it upsets me, too. I work at a grooming shop of a vet and it always upsets me seeing the way people just try to wait it out and hope they get better, then come to us as a last resort, sometimes when it's too late. My babies are fully vaccinated all the time, get the best food and go to doggy daycare.
