Breast cancer is a scary thing. But just like some people already said, there are many treatment options that work really well. Your mom has a great chance at surviving. That doesn't mean it will be easy. Just try and be there for her. Many of the treatments for cancer make people very sick sometimes and she'll need a lot of love.

As for you getting cancer; having a history of cancer in your family does increase your chances of getting it, but it does not mean you will get it. There are a lot of tests to help detect breast cancer early on and even a test of your DNA to see if you are more likely to get it.

I'm really sorry about your Mum hun and your Granma. You need to know that back when your Granma was having treatment, the Drs didn't know as much as they do now and now there is 100's of treatments out there for cancer. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer is women and a LOT is known about it. Your Mom wont die hun. She'll be poorly and need a lot of treatment...either radiotherapy or chemotherapy but she will be ok if they caught it early or in time. It really depends on how far advanced your Moms cancer is and if it spreads to lymphnodes it can be more difficult to treat but Drs can usually treat it.

This doesn't mean your going to get it when your older but it does run in the women of your family. It runs in the women in my family too but its skipped 3 generations so far. This does not mean you will get cancer ok. You can think like that. Take care x

i'm so sorry to hear about your mom - you must all be worried...with so many treatments available your mom's chances of survival are much higher than your grandma's, i'm sure! Breast cancer is genetic and telling your doctor during your physicals that you do have a family history is important...with a family history mamograms, etc will be done earlier than on someone without the family history...it's sooo importat that you do regular monthly breats exams..it's easy and it's great to do it when you get your period weach month so that you don't forget...if you feel any irregular or painful bumps go strait to the doctor!! My thoughts are with you and your family - I'll say a prayer for you...

I'm so sorry for your mum being ill, nothing anyone says is going to make you feel better.
With you saying that both your mum and her mum have had breast cancer, you could have a test to see if it is genetic, and are carrying the gene(assuming that you are female).I would be surprised if you were'nt offered this option.
I wish you well.
PS having cancer does not mean you are going to die, with all the treatments today thousands of people overcome this illness.

I understand you are scared, however, you, yourself need to be really strong for your mom, my mom 2 yrs ago had breast cancer, it wasn't easy, she had chemo, she lost her hair, scarey (at first) but we went and bought her 2 wigs togeather an tryed to make light of what was going on, it always helps to have a good sense of humor (even if it seems the world has swallowed you whole) but she and i know that it could always come back, but we will deal with it again, i have always been there for my mom and i always will, i know it will come to me soon, but when it does, i can't say i would be as strong as her, but i will try to be. Don't spend your life worring and spend it as if it were your last day, very much luck to you, i pray for you also- and your mom (she will make it)

with out being a doctor, i'd say her probability is powerful as long as they caught it in the early tiers. she will desire huge treatment however the medical occupation has had many successes whilst it includes breast maximum cancers and it may purely get extra constructive!

Please do not worry, there is a cure for cancer now. I am sure your mom can be helped. You get a mammogram every year and perform self check on the breast every other day. There is no substitute for early detection. The earlier you come to know the easier it is to treat.
Good luck
