Uhhh.... I wouldn't live in Puerto Rico even if they paid me. First of all, it is not safe and the crime there has sky rocketed over the years. I am Puerto Rico and I have family in Puerto Rico. I have not visited PR since 99' and I dont plan on visiting any time soon. Hoped this helped. Oh and I have family in Yauco and Guanica.

or go Inland....Puerto Rico is just like everywhere else...There's a rotten Neigborhood in all cities...so you will have to shop around if You want to stay in the city...

Palmas del mar is absolutely beautiful and safe, my dad and I where traveling south just to go around the island and we stayed there because they have hotels as well but it is like its own little town. It is awesome. It is expensive though. Puerto Rico right now is not safe but in communities like Palmas del Mar and such is a good place to live. Saludos a los Boricuas!!!!!!
