I have always wondered about liberals who are so very accepting of other cultures and religions, but who slam Evangelical Christians at every opportunity. Why? If you respect one group, you should have respect for all groups!

I admit that there are some corrupt televangelists, etc., but there are corrupt folks in every group. I am just so tired of having to keep quiet about my religious beliefs among liberals whether in the classroom, or in the work place, or whatever.

I really wonder about this.

Dear bad Liberal: If my religion teaches that I should Evangelize, should I not do that because some people don't want me to? (Of course, I am polite and respectful as I do it), but really? Do I have to HIDE my religious beliefs in order to fit in to society? Do you hide your beliefs?

Hypocrisy will always exist in this world. Inside and outside the organized churches. It is human nature to point out perceived flaws in others. No offense but that is the main problem people have with the evangelicals. The problem being if all us Christians were more concerned with bringing our own flaws under the light with the Holy Spirit we would scarcely have time to worry about anyone else's sins. Looking at what the world is doing is a distraction from the real work of God which is perfecting His love in each of us that we will be good witnesses of His love. He is courting His bride. Do you really think that He wants you to show her His love through pointing out her faults. Is this how you would win your sweeties heart? I am a Christian and am only saying this in love.

As Christians, our beliefs don't allow us to "take NO for an answer" to quote chippy. We believe that Christ is the ONLY way to God. In a world of "liberals" (by the way, Christ would probably have been considered a liberal; he turned the Jewish leaders' world upside down) who say that anyone can believe anything so long as they don't "push" their beliefs onto others, Jesus being the ONLY way is obviously going to be a problem. Furthermore, we are also called to spread the word because without it, even the liberals will be lost.

Remember: The best measure to take against your enemies is to pray for them. Don't be disheartened. God will work on their hearts. Sometimes all you can do is to plant a seed and let God water and fertilize it.

It is interesting how liberal Christians despise conservative Christians, but accept almost everything else. I was raised in a liberal church and the sermons were nothing more than progressive politics cloaked in little stories of good deeds (with the occasional chastening of conservative views).

The irony is, the very shallow form of inclusiveness that church promotes has caused its membership to decline exponentially. Most people Christians are interested in the Bible and its teachings. If you aren't, you generally sleep in on Sundays. Who wants to go to a church that doesn't believe in Christianity? Really, people have better things to do, Christians and non-Christians alike.

Cassie, I consider preaching as, being told I am going to hell for my beliefs. but most sermons will refer to some verse in the bible. Hey, turn your E-mail on.

Now to answer your question. Goes back to the preaching thing again. Hardliners are hard to accept when they go around telling everyone their way is the only way. Liberals believe there is always more than one way to get the job done and resent being told (a requirement of the Evangelical movement) that their excepting ways has bought them a one way ticket to dinner with Satan. It is very hard to like someone who is throwing rocks at you.

As a Humanist and the only non-Christian working in a building full of evangelical Christians, I know just what you mean.

Be yourself anyway. That's your right. I respect my co-workers of faith because I truly believe in religious freedom and live in a country that considers it a cherished liberty.

WE wonder why YOU don't realize that it's in the word EVANGELICAL !!! Leave everybody else the fcuk alone and we will care about you as much as we care about Zoroastrans and Ra-worshippers! It's not us - it's YOU!

If your religion tells you to evangelize then you should accept the consequences of getting up other people's noses without this kind of public whining. Until then, take it like a christian. Or get a sense of respect and leave others in peace. Your wretched evangelizing is not wanted and not useful. Most people whose beliefs offend YOU so much are usually responding TO Christians' belief that they are entitled and required to shove their distorted version of reality at as many people as they can.

it's one thing to accept and respect another person's culture and beliefs and quite another thing to roll over and let them force you to live your life according to their beliefs. What I see happening, a lot, is not that evangelicals are not accepted or respected (quite the contrary) but that they go out of their way to force everyone to live by their personal beliefs.

For example, I often write letters to the editor of my local paper in response to someone using the page to proselytize to other people. Still, the newspaper respects those people's opinions, and mine, enough to print both despite what anyone who works at the paper believes. However, I also often attend city council meetings and debates because these same people trying to proselytize on the paper are the same people trying to get the city government to give them special priviledges based on their religion OR to cut someone elses *equal rights* because it's against their beliefs.

You can believe whatever you want to believe in. I won't stop you and I will respect your right to believe those things. But don't expect me to sit idally by while the same group of people you're referring to try to force everyone to live by their personal beliefs. That is unacceptable.

Try being a Wiccan in a room full of Catholic friends - many of whom happen to be liberals. I think you'll find that evangelicals aren't the only ones who get slammed. Of course, we have Christianity to thank for that, so I guess you have no one to blame but yourselves and we have no one to blame but you.

Frankly I think you're paranoid and have a persecution complex. The idea that liberals are "intolerant" of Christianity is patently absurd.

Look at it this way: We're tolerant of your ridiculous idea that stem cells are sacred. We're tolerant of the Hindu doctrine that cows are sacred. We just don't want either codified into law.
