We never keep meat in the freezer for over a year. Depends on the quality and temperature of the freezer, but it'll last months (or until you get freezer burn)

If you have a vacuum sealer you can freeze it for 2-3 years (As long as it properly seals) If you do not have a sealer keep in it's origional package and wrap again in plastic wrap and foil. You can keep it for 6 months to 1 year.

i believe i heard somewhere that all meats are safe up to 6 months in the freezer

If uncooked: maybe 6 months.
If cooked: a month or two if well packaged.

you can keep it there forever

it just doesn't still taste very good if its frozen

even worse if it sits a long time
