yes- Chuck Wepner a/k/a "the Bayonne Bleeder" fought Muhammad Ali for the title and knocked Ali down before eventually losing the fight. Chuck (an alleged mob associate) used to jog around Bayonne, NJ at dawn. However, he also drove a pink Lincoln Continental with the license plate "Champ." Chuck was a tough guy who also did one of those exhibitions where he fought a wrestler (may have even been Andre the Giant) but was thrown out of the ring. Think that sounds like Rocky Balboa? Oh, and also, Stallone settled a suit with Wepner recently regarding the infringement. Apparently, he was promised by Stallone long ago he'd be "taken care of."

I dont know what the heck people are talking about with the YES answer. Ofcourse not. just because their answer is long and has big-words doent mean its right. NOBODY CHOOSE BEST ANSWER FOR ANYONE WHO SAID YES BECAUSE IT IS WRONG. I am a huge Rocky Balboa fan, AND I also met Salvester (the guy who plays Rocky). The answer to your question is Yes and No. yes there was once some guy KIND OF LIKE rocky, but when the first Rocky came out, the motion pictures have not even heared of it. its not based on a true story, but something happened FAR, FAR, FAR streatched out than that. My final answer to your question is NO.

There was no boxer actually named Rocky Balboa. The inspiration for the movie is Chuck Wepner, who once knocked down Muhammed Ali on a left hook Ali was hit with left hooks all the time though, even by people who were inferior boxers. He fought with his body very square, so when he missed with a right hook he was suceptable to left hooks. You'd think that Wepner would enjoy a little publicity, but he would later file a lawsuit against Sly Stallone. Wepner filed a lawsuit against Stallone for money supposedly owed to him for the Rocky movies. He has claimed that Stallone has used Wepner's name numerous times without permission when he talks about the inspiration for Rocky Balboa. Two of his other claims were dismissed by U.S. District Court judges, and Sylvester Stallone settled the latest claim out of court for an undisclosed amount.

No there wasn't actually a Rocky Balboa. There were other boxers named Rocky (eg Rocky Merciano) but not a Rocky Balboa.

#1 Yankee Fan,
Did you click on the link?
You are either illiterate, computer illiterate, or just plain dumb. So what you're saying is the boxer in the link is just a figment of boxing's imagination.
