my aunt punishes her 4 year old with soap in his mouth. i told them that i heard of a kid dying because of it. they dont believe me. has anyone else heard of it and know where i can find an article about it?

Even if one child accidentally bit off a chunk of soap and choked to death, it would be such a freak accident that to hold it to a standard would be absurd.
People get killed in stupid ways every year (vending machines..etc.). Those are the rare anomalies...not the norm.
Bring on the soap. Sassy kids deserve it....it will be a sad day when parent's stop disciplining their children because "some poor kid in china died from soap".
ETA: Soap to punish swearing is abuse? You've got to be kidding me. No wonder kids are so screwed up today.....with parents who think soap is abusive.
I'm sorry but I WAS abused as a child. Beat, Sexual, Verbal. I know what abuse is. Soap is a far cry from abuse. People just don't know what they are talking about unless they've actually experienced something.

They do? Why am I not dead? My mom put soap in my mouth twice when I was younger. once because I told her to go to hell. The second time was because I said $hit. That was when I was like 13 or 14. I'm 21 now and have yet to say another curse-word in front of my mom.

No, but using soap to punish a child is abusive. Parents who do this are probably from low poverty, abused as children themselves or just plain ignorant.

Maybe if they had an allergic reaction to it...but no I have only heard of children being taken from the home and put into state custody because of this...it's child abuse!
