If it was a road side camera then they usually get pictures of the rear of the car. So, unless you were in a soft top with the roof down then it is fair to say that they may not identify you.

However, if it was you and you lie then you commit all manner of offences which could result in a larger fine, prison, driving ban or a combination of them all.

If the camera was a camera van then they get a picture of the front of the car with the driver.

Just own up. The case questioning civil liberties/human rights regarding not telling who was driving has not yet gone through so it could be some time before you can use this one.

There are different types of speed cameras. The most common variety takes a picture of the back of your vehicle (incl number plate). However, as new cameras are being put in, this new model takes a photo from in front of your car (incl your front number plate this time), but also showing fairly clearly who was driving.

So really, it depends on the model of camera.

Not really, but you can get into deep trouble if you try to lie about the driver. A guy in the news got sent down for this recently. You also get licence points for this.

Yes, they can. Here in the states on some of the tollways a camera takes your picture if you miss a toll. Cars are going 60 MPH.

Here's an idear, why can't everyone, as they approach a speed camera, and i mean EVERYONE put their foot down as they go past all at once, the speed camera is'nt going to fine everyone is IT?! if everyone worked together. Here's another idear, jump into your Bugatti Veyron and go past a speed camera at 240MPH to see if the camera will pick up your number plate in time, the car will out run it befor it has enough time to get your reg. Don't forget to smile....... haha.....
